Probably the best decision really, very unfortunate timing for the game's release.

If I do see this floating around the net somewhere I'll try to pick it up though.

God I want this game now.

The game will not be out anymore... sadly.
Great. Now I really want it.

I think it's for the best. I applaud SEGA for being sensitive and wise.
But I do hope it eventually gets released :)

I hate to think what other games from Sega Studios Japan might get the axe...

I can totally understand this decision. After the tragic events that have been occurring since Friday, I won't be watching a Godzilla movie again for a long, long time (and I'm a huge fan of that genre).

Well, Binary Domain is the only other SEGA title I can think of that might have objectionable content like destroyed cities. All other titles in development might be delayed by a month or two, though most of them we don't know enough about yet (Sonic 4 Ep 2, PSO2, Shining Force, Puyo 20th, Sonic Anniversary), so a delay will probably not be noticed with those. I'll bet stuff like Max Anarchy will still hit the projected period of Fall, though it might just arrive later in the fall than it would have had the disaster not occurred.

I'd prefer SEGA of Japan take their time with their work and focus on clean up before getting back into development of titles.

I am curious, however, if Virtua Tennis 4 will be affected. Its the only SoJ title I know of with a US/Euro release date. Wonder if they'll still hit Late April, early May? Would it even be in development still?

I don’t imagine any games like VT will be affected; it is less to do with disruption in the country and more to do with the insensitive nature of the Yakuza Of the End game.

@Barry

That's what I meant, I mean Sega of Japan will likely have to reassesse their communications and get things running, which likely harm the other title's schedules.

That would include Binary Domain, but that title won't likely make it out this year.

But for Sega to waste so resources with this title would be a damn shame, but alas, releasing the title now would most likely lead to very bad word of mouth and accusing them of being tasteless.

I can understand the reason for the delay, though if I were a gamer in Japan I imagine I'd be pretty annoyed.

It's better this way. The subject material hits too close to home right now, plus Yakuza 4 was in Japan just this time last year. It needs time away from this crisis and to get Yakuza fans wanting more Yakuza again.

Speaking of which, Nagoshi-san has posted this on his personal blog, I can't make out much from Google Tranlaste, but it does appear that the earthquake was the prevailing reason for Sega and himself to delay the release of this game.

Sega Sammy just issued a press release due to the Earthquake.

Essentially they are closing down their game centers for the time being, investigating possible casualties among their staff and should their bussiness be affected by the quake, they will disclose any information on the matter.

I don't think they should cancel it. Don't get me wrong I agree with the delay. But this is Zombies (Although do we know how they become Zombies?)

It's mot much, but VT4 now has a June 10th release date on SEGA Japan's site, and on the West sites, it was May 10th. Isn't it a worldwide release? If so, it was delayed a month.

VT4 had an April 29th Euro release, a May 10th USA release and from what you're saying a June 10th release. I don't think the JP release was previously announced, so that could just be in Japan, and the other releases are staying as is.

Personally, I'd like them to release them all on the same date. Those dates are far too apart for an effective marketing push. Seems sorta stupid to have the Euro SEGA blogs announce it, wait 2 weeks, the USA blogs announce it, wait a month and then it hits Japan. :P
