You know, if you guys want to get really into agreeing on the BEST Sonic tunes, we could nail down a comprehensive list that fits an 80 minute CD-R and I could write up a "SEGAbits Sonic 20th Anniversary Playlist" article later this year.

Not providing files or anything, just saying "the writers and readers chose these XX tracks, conveniently they fit an 80 minute CD-R. Just sayin'."

I think the only real rules would be that no game can monopolize the list (maybe put a cap at home many can be repped from one game) and the whole 20 years must be observed. Not every title needs representation, but every title deserves a chance at making the list with a song, even if they get voted off.

I don't want to hijack this thread, so if anybody thinks this is a cool idea, I can make a separate thread.
I don't mind it man. Ever since the first post I was wanting for a mod to change the name of the thread, so if that's possible please do. I like the idea

I'm a mod! I can do anything! (bans you, unbans you, karmas you, unkarmas you, retitles topic).

I think it'd be cool if perhaps each person is allowed one post of two songs per day. They don't have to do new games every day, but are encouraged to mix it up. Sound cool?

Yeah, if it goes nowhere, it goes nowhere. But I'm sure we'll get enough tunes.

edit:

my two!

I really like this song. Funny thing is, I recognize it more from Sonic Adventure Dreamcast DLC than from Sonic CD. Didn't get to hear it proper until this year when I successfully emulated SEGA CD titles on my computer and caanoo. Finally get to play both the US and JP versions of the game.

And from a game I've yet to own:

[youtube:3r18egos]t7BWme8CTew[/youtube:3r18egos]

The tune reminds me of an upbeat remix of a PSO tune. Really love this one, probably my favorite in the game OST.

Sonic CD has something which I cannot truly describe. Sometimes I found it overrated but recently i'm starting to like it more than the other 3 games. The thing with CD is that the game is "challenging" and has a lot in common with sonic 1 but with more speed. Some find sonic 1 boring but I think it's the only sonic game to have some good challenge. Sonic cd has it's flaws here and there but yeah, needs more recognition.

You just made me wanna switch my wii on lol. Sonic colors has a beautiful OST.

Congrats in emulating it lol. It's a pain for the first time getting the tracks right :p. I actually combined best of both.

Anyway, here are my 2 songs for today.

Some excellent guitar play
[youtube:39fonnfe]0lzBfgbl-vE[/youtube:39fonnfe]

And of course the all famous Ice cap
[youtube:39fonnfe]hYxlqTpZ-24[/youtube:39fonnfe]

Needs remix quick!!

For me, Sonic CD as a game very much feels like (and basically is) an alternate universe Sonic 2. It is a letdown when playing it after Sonic 2, however I could totally see it being awesome to somebody who had played it and had yet to play Sonic 2. Tidal Tempest had great music (both versions) and some very creative little underwater puzzles. Personally, I loved it when I finally got it and my SEGA CD in 1999. Sounds great in stereo.

Seriously!  Well, sort of.  There was this one YouTube video of a mix of Ice Cap Zone and "Who It Is" by Michael Jackson.  It was awesome.  Now I can't seem to find it.

There's a few, but they don't sync up as well...

Yeah they defenitly have to do more remixes and throwbacks. Not whole rehashes though

Well anyway, some more songs. Sonic 3d blast on the genesis had some great tracks too. I actually think the music for 3d blast is better than all 3 of the classics.

Rusty ruins. I really like this song

[youtube:1739ygl5]FfG09iLCKsM[/youtube:1739ygl5]

and Diamond dust

[youtube:1739ygl5]Mf7-ixllcgo[/youtube:1739ygl5]

Like in 3&knuckles, the songs come in two version per zone.

Going Game Gear today!

The awesome Ice Cap from Sonic Drift 2. Probably my favorite 8 bit Sonic tune:

Another favorite of mine, Sonic 1's Master System credits, famously known for being remixed in Unleashed's Mazuri day stage:

Picking only two is extremely difficult because I've love the music of the Sonic series so much. I don't have an absolute favorite, but here are two pieces of music I've really enjoyed listening to lately.

[youtube:11iqst31]awJTBGiM28s[/youtube:11iqst31]

Come to think of it, I've always loved the music of snow stages in Sonic games.

White Acropolis is a good tune, though problem was my first time hearing it was my first time playing the godawful stage. The snowboard physics made me turn '06 off and never play it again. Wish I heard the music before playing the game :P

However, I do really like this '06 tune, regardless of gameplay:

[youtube:2c4vvzy6]ahXzlX6OH_8[/youtube:2c4vvzy6]

It's a lot of fun when used in custom soundtracks with Unleashed.

Since I need to pick another, I have to give a shout out to my boys in Chun-Nan! What are people from Chun-nan called, anyway? Chun-nanese?:

[youtube:2c4vvzy6]djuCGh_I7RI[/youtube:2c4vvzy6]

I just loved this stage combined with the music.

I am certain the Mazuri song is not a remix. First of all, why would they pick something so obscure, and why would it be just the one song? I am certain it was an accident, which is understandable considering how basic the song is and how many Sonic games there are now.

And for 8bit Sonic music? Come on, there is no contender to Bridge Zone greatness.
