Beautiful!!! I feel that it's not the usual poor HD filters; however, only the fact that behind the remake there is Treasure, I am reassured.

If anyone wants to read an old review of the game when it first came out, I dug up an old issue of GameFan with lots of screenshots and character art.

Cover
First
Second
Third
Fourth
Fifth
Sixth

They're also available zipped from this link.

So, what are the levels/locations like in this game?  All of the footage I've seen is pretty battle-heavy, but do you ever just kind of traverse long distances?

It's pretty much a fantasy style beat-em-up, imagine Streets of Rage with swords and magic. (to put it extremely simply)

But theres the level up system, which adds the RPG elements.

I don't remember any points where you just walk without fighting anything. It does pause for any story moments where you have to read and make choices about which path to take next.

The levels depend on the paths you take. You could spend a play-through only in castles and towns, then play it again to instead fight in the heavens or underworld. Lots of variety.

As segaismysaviour said, the variety in levels is really good in this game. You go from small villiages to castles, royal dining rooms to dungeons, forests to demonic underworlds...

It's rivaled only by the great character variety.

The only "different" thing on this game compaired with others on the same genre, I believe, it's the three lines system.

You can walk through these three lines and switch it on his way. You can't walk freely like on most of similars games.

I'd perfer to see a true sequel to this rather than an update.

Well I own the saturn version and i'm quite happy with this "good" port of the game. The game runs on 50hz on my pal saturn which kinda sux. I like the game alot but they held back my experience and I never really played the  game that often. There were also occasional slowdowns WITHIN the 50hz frequence lol so for me this port is more than welcome

What does "Ora Ora Ora!" mean? I hear it a lot in beat em ups. Like the above clip and Power Stone.
