I just realised how few Sonic games I actually genuinely enjoy. The Mega Drive OG games are some of my all time favourite games, but SA 1 & 2 are only on there by default really. I didn't particularly like Colours or play enough of Generations to compare them.

Generations supplants SA1 and 2 for me, mainly because I much prefer 2D Sonic, and thought Generations provided a very satisfying 2D Sonic console experience. The 3D gameplay doesn't quite beat SA1 and 2, but all the extra characters in those games held them back when compared to Generations.

I do admit to enjoying Sonic 4 Episode 1 when it released, but over the few years since release it has slipped to not even making my top ten. I've played it again recently and could just not get into it. Episode 2 was far better, and is probably the reason I began to lose interest in Episode 1, but it still does not crack my ten favorite Sonic titles (2D or 3D). Though were I to name my favorite standalone 2D Sonic games, Sonic 4 Episode 2 would make the list:

1: Sonic The Hedgehog (MD) - The original, the classic, still great fun to play.
2: Sonic Adventure (DC) - Blew me away when I first played it. One of my fondest gaming memories
3: Sonic 2 (MD) - Took the first game and expanded it in every way
4: Sonic Generations - (360/PS3) - Superb remakes of classic levels
5: Sonic Transformed (360/PS3/WIIU) - Mario Kart 8 will have to be something special
6: Sonic R (SAT) - Insane graphics for the Saturn, this was hated by many but I loved the music, the visuals
7: Sonic 3 (MD) - Music by MJ... Need I say anymore
8: Sonic CD (MCD) - Great new unique concepts. Brilliant soundtrack.
9: Sonic Adventure 2 (DC) - Cleaned up all the rough edges of the first game. But didnt have the wow factor.
10: Sonic & Knuckles - I was tired of the MD tech and 2D Sonics when this was released.
