This is my opinion of the 2 games.

SSAR :

+ Better and more detailt allstarmoves ( like sonic transformes in super sonic )
+ Better Characters , more variation ( Ryo, chu chu's, Billy )
+ Choose your music option
+ Segamiles ( better than those crappy stars )
+  the announcer is great !
 - No allstarmoves online
 - to much Sonic and monkey ball tracks

SART :
+ More variation in tracks ( cooler tracks like Panzer Dragoon, After Burner, Golden Axe )
+ vehicles that transform in cars, Boats and airplanes
+ All star moves can be used online
 - No announcer
 - Danica Patrick ( no SEGA character )
 - Bad allstarsmoves ( look all the same)
 - less variation of characters ( Ulala- pudding - Nights- Reala- Aiai-MeeMee)
 - No Ryo Hazuki !

So I think i like the first game more ;-)

Transformed, no contest

When I go back to the first sega racing. I fall sleep because it doesn't take much effort to finish the game. Once you understand drift mechanic, everything can be done with no much attention. The drifting is too effective.

Transformed howevr is the kind of game where you lose and you know you can keep doing better, untill you do and find there's so much more to it and there's so much depth to each mechanic. Then game becomes g ood. When I think about it, first SEGA racing whore bad game looking back

Also I say that nintedo's mario kart has lost throne. Honestly, mario kart aint shit on sonic racing transformed. Nintendo lost this battle and in time Nintendo be gone. Iwata is effing up that mofo

I would say that the first game has a better character roster and is more accessible to new-comers (boating has turned most of my friends who were into the first title off of Transformed completely)

but that Transformed has better tracks, a better career mode, and better music.

Both however suffer from some slight performance issues and a general lack of polish that push them just out of Mario Kart's league in my opinion.  They're great titles though that I've had a lot of fun with.  Here's hoping for more entries.

I think the first game had a LOT of polish vs Transformed.

The first game, after awhile became stale due to the track design but the online and competitiveness in that game was much more effective then Transformed.

The tracks are better in Transformed, but I feel that some of the desgn choices on them ruin many dedicated gamers experiences with it (such as really thin sections in the tracks, turns that should be doable but can end up being glitch etc).

Overall, I like the first game better purely because the online was much more accessable (but with only two modes of play, items and no items), the online in Transformed was done wrongly despite adding new modes.
Big fan of Claymore, Miria in particular.

Currently playing Yakuza 0.

Transformed was far more ambitious, which lead to it feeling less polished than the first game, but that doesn't mant the first is a better game. The first played it so safe by comparison, so of course there are less wonky moments. I think Sumo did a fantastic job given the concept of Transformed. Felt far more like a SEGA game than the first.

I think both had strong rosters. I loved Ryo, Opa Opa and Bonanza Bros in the first one, but I equally loved Vyse, Ages, Gilius, Joe, and NiGHTS. True, the sequel has some garbage characters like Meemee, but given Sumo put secondaries like Gum, Meemee, Reala and Pudding in as a bonus, I'm okay with their addition. I like Gum and Reala especially, and Pudding has a cool all-star move.

I think Transformed had better tracks for sure, and nearly every IP from the first game returned as either new tracks or returning tracks.

I prefer new remixed music over existing music. If I want to choose my music, I can do the custom soundtrack option on my XBOX.

I preferred the first game's all-star moves, but again I totally get why they had to do what they did. The first game's ASM's were difficult to implement online. Still, first game wins in this category.

Overall, Transformed for me!

I think most of Transformed's roster's bad rep comes from the ultra lame guest characters.  Even though Sumo assured us repeatedly that no Sega characters were cut because of them, I don't think anyone really believes it.

Also how were the clone characters. . . a "bonus"?  Without them the roster would have been ridiculously small.

SEGA planned to have the roster as is, with none of the secondary characters. Sumo, and Steve, knew that they couldn't let a roster that small happen do they made characters like Meemee, Gum, Reala and Pudding as a bonus. Development was done outside of the character budget, and they seem to have put in extra (unpaid?) hours to do this, using Superstars Tennis assets and the existing Aiai, Beat, NiGHTS and Ulala vehicles.

Well, given the high quality and diversity of the tracks this time around, it only make sense that the roster would be less varied.  Good on them for the unpaid hours <3

^I wouldn't say you were missing out with the last game, but with this one I do think you are missing out on one of the greatest love letters from SEGA fans to SEGA fans... well in other words, amazing game.

Sonic transformed > SEGA allstars racing all the way for the same reasons that have already been stated.

I liked the first game when it came out, had some funtimes as a SEGA enthousiast it had some good fanservice too. But yeah it lacked a lot of depth and felt like a party game similar to mario kart.

Transformed however feels like an actual racing game. Lately i've been playing "lucky dip" online mode on the PC. It's a mode with various random modes put together instead of the racing mode where it is just racing with the pick up items. One of the modes is "boost race", which is basically racing without the pickups and addition of more boost pads on the tracks similarly to wipeout. This mode is so amazing because it is purely revolved around skill with the absence of pickups. And it gets really intense trying to hold out till you get lvl 3 boosts, making sharp turns etc to get closer to the guy in front of you. I'd compare it to serious racers.

One of the best SEGA games in the last decade. It'd definitly make it in a top 5

Well i'm fully PC right now, but occasionally I chill at a friend who I  got the game with before the PC release.

The PC release is also the most bug free version of them so I really hope there'll be updates for the console versions soon

While im not there as often lately, there can be times that i'll be there more often so anyone who has a PS3, add this acount: Wikhasj.
