It looks much better than I anticipated, just wow. I wonder if Disney just gave them a big budget for this.

Iconic SEGA Genesis Title Returns to Consoles in Summer 2013

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO– 15th April, 2013 –SEGA® Europe Ltd., and SEGA® of America, Inc. in collaboration with Disney Interactive today announced the upcoming digital release of Castle of Illusion staring Mickey Mouse™, a complete re-imagining of the iconic Mega Drive/Genesis side-scrolling adventure first released in 1990. Developed by Sega Studios Australia, Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will be available worldwide for digital download on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360®, PlayStation®Network and Windows PC in summer 2013.

I was skeptical of how good it would look if it turned out to be a complete remake, but man, this looks really nice.

Grant Kirkhope, a former composer from Rare best known for composing Banjo-Kazooie, is doing the music: https://twitter.com/grantkirkhope/status/323861486038577152

This is looking more exciting than DuckTales. Really, this is the biggest reveal of the year thus far from SEGA and is one of the few (if only) confirmed new titles. I'm certain we'll see some exciting stuff soon, and I'm not saying that I'm NOT expecting anything, I'm just saying that for the first time this year I'm honestly truly excited for an upcoming SEGA game.

If they announce a few more Sonic titles (Sonic remastered on consoles, a main series title), a few more Dreamcast rereleases (Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue) and a few more surprises, I'll be a happy SEGA fan in 2013. PSO2 in the winter would be awesome.

Yeah I agree. Castle of Illusion was one of the first genesis titles, and it shows because the visuals looked very simple compared to what came a bit later. The visuals look great. And after what timmit posted, it seems very likely that the music is gonna be great too.

Reading around I realised this was made by a studio that has just recently closed. Kind of strange imo. Makes you wonder why.. I mean why would they be fired if the result "would" be good? Simply because it had to happen? Cuz they didn't do a good job, hence project moved and was finished by an other team? Or the results being bad?

But yeah damn it. This has been one hell of a quiet SEGA year so far. So this better be worth it!

SEGA Studios Australia hasn't closed yet actually, but they're planning on closing it later this year. They also aren't necessarily a bad developer, these are the previous games by them:
- Medieval II: Total War (got great reception)
- Stormrise (got bad reception, but that might be more due to RTS games just not working well on consoles)
- The official London 2012 Olympics game (got decent reception for an official Olympics game)

Don't know if they made any other games, but those are the ones I know about. Seems like their bad games are games that were pretty much doomed from the start. They're working with the director of the original Castle of Illusion on this though.

Yeah I wasn't implying that they were a bad dev team, although i'm not a fan of any of those games. But I meant like how their future closure announcement occurred during the game's development does raise a bit of questions. Unless the good results wouldn't be all their doing, I imagine they'd feel really bad. We'll find out about the game eventually though :P

This game would score a TKO if the Genesis original is a unlockable. Castle of Illusion still remains as one of my favorite Genesis games despite its age. Revisiting all those levels sounds great to me. Day one purchase for sure.
I despise ignorant fanboys. Enjoy the great games on all systems or platforms. There is no reason for blind hate...
