A light novel serialization will start in June featuring each Sega console as a particular Sega Goddess.

Sega has had a bit of a Retro-Cool revival of sorts in the last few years. I personally love these efforts as they keep Sega's image as a console maker alive and endear the public to their older consoles.

The Hyperdimension Neptunia games have been a big hit and the main protagonist for that series has always been a Sega console (1st game - Sega Neptune, 2nd game - Sega Game Gear, 3rd game - Neptune and Genesis). The Neptunia series is set to debut an anime this summer as well.

This manga regarding the sega consoles is unrelated.

I seen that on RadioSega.

It looks okay I suppose...but I am not a fan of much manga (especially the Magical Girl genre...it's just too campy)
Big fan of Claymore, Miria in particular.

Currently playing Yakuza 0.

I dunno. I think the people that are fans Sega's history from the past aren't really into the cutesy/fetishy genre of Manga.

but I am not a fan of much manga

There is alot of great Manga out there of different themes and genres, just as there is for any other Medium.

Hey I'm all for Sega anything at this point.

If Sega partnered with McDonalds to have each console re-imagined as a burger, I'd be in line to buy the Double-Cheese Mega Drive.

Jokes aside, The design that went into these "personifications" looks quite nice and it's easy to spot which console is which. Also, who doesn't think of their Sega consoles as magical in some way and as far as them being girls, well... Japan.

Eh, the "SEGA stuff as anime/manga" thing was weird, but kind of neat the first time they did it. Now it's just weird and done too much.

I think the fact that online 'fans' will be doing porn out of them, when they are said to be in middle school is what is going to be creepy shit.

Yeah I know, but I am just not that big on Manga like most gamers are...

The only manga/anime I have enjoyed is Mushi-Shi and the Ghibli films....that's all I can get into.

Sailor Moon is probably a deep category for Magical Girl manga, but I just can't get into that genre as some of it bugs me (not to mention the feminists will either say it degrades woman or those who watch it find it to be more of harmless fun despite arguing against this type of thing in video games).

Big fan of Claymore, Miria in particular.

...Meh, like everyone said, it's a bit overdone, especially considering the whole "Magical Girl" thing wouldn't go well here in the west(though the east may have a different view). At least it ain't Sonic and something else. Beggars can't be choosers.

TBH I prefer AGES having the "personification of SEGA" shtick.

Magical Girl stuff is quite niche in the US afaik (Sailor Moon...it flopped in the UK so they decided to cancel it), I am sure people enjoy it.

I don't find the designs all that bad, but they could have just went the route of that Neptuna game or whatever it's called.

These are really cool looking!
I don't think there will be a problem getting SEGA fans to enjoy these at all, remember there is the entire asian market (Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Japan) which will eat this right up.

They got the designer of Hatsune Miku (KEI) to design these characters (you will notice the Sega Saturn bears more than just a passing resemblance to her ;) )  This alone is big news, sure to be raise the popularity of it a lot amongst KEI's fans.

Light novels are actually a type of short-story novel though, not Manga!

There are plenty of fans of this kind of thing in the "west" though, Hyper Dimension Neptunia has well over 20 000 likes on Facebook.

Another great thing about this is it will draw in fans of Japanese pop culture who previously held no interest in SEGA's older consoles.    :cop:

Hey there! Welcome to SEGABits! =)

I have no problem with this at all. In fact, I'm sure the people this is targeted at will gladly have a go at it. It's just that we are speaking from the perspective of a "western" fanbase, and as you said, Hyperdimension Neptunia already did the whole Moe Personification bit, so (to us) there's not much to be interested in, as the whole novelty of the concept has worn off.

Unless of course, this doesn't end up like that console wars anime and has plot that does something with the premise, there's a chance I'll be interested.
