Have you brought any Sega related Tv shows and Movies?
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:34:11 am »
Sega has a number of tv shows, be they cartoons or anime as well as a few movies. I was just wondering not whether you have seen any of these Sega media but have you purchased any of the DVDs of these tv series and films?
I was wondering because COMPANY OF HEROES was made into a film be it straight to video and it was released a few after Sega purchused the rights to the franchise. Now technically the movie was made before any of the THQ stuff happened but it was released afterwards when Sega became the legal owner. I don't expect Sega to get a credit but since CoH is now a Sega franchise be it a Sega west one, does the movie even count as one of the few Sega franchises to be made into a film? and should i bother to get it for my collection? Which is what led to my posting this topic.
So far i have most of the Sega movies apart from LAST BRONX, only have a part of that, all of the Sega inhouse related animes, all the tv shows of Sonic that was made in america but none of the segatoy partnerships anime like JEWELPET and BAKUGAN.  I was just wondering if anyone else here has parted cash or whatever to get Sega based media material.

Good topic!

I actually was thinking of asking kori and AJ if they want to record a commentary podcast for The House of the Dead.

Anyway, I have:

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog vol. 1-3 (complete series)
Sonic Underground vol. 1&2 (complete series)
Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) (complete series)
Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie (Sonic OVA)
Power Stone vol. 1-6 (dubbed anime) - not SEGA, but has a strong connection to SEGA hardware
Panzer Dragoon anime (VHS)

What the hell is this, by the way: http://www.amazon.com/House-Dead-Ellie-Cornell/dp/B0016PWTVQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1369330403&sr=1-4&keywords=house+of+the+dead

Looks like a HotD movie spoof or something??

edit: looked into it:

September 9th is a date you’re not going to want to miss as Lionsgate Home Entertainment is set to release House of the Dead Director’s Cut: Funny Version on DVD. What is this exactly? Infamous director Uwe Boll (Alone in the Dark) turns horror into humor with this comedic rendition of his Zombie cult classic. It’s spring break and these typical college kids just want to have fun – killing zombies! This “side splitting” director’s cut of House of the Dead features new dialogue, alternative takes, pop up commentary and animation from the original video game. Original cast includes Jurgen Prochnow (The DaVinci Code) and Clint Howard (Halloween) with a special appearance by famed breast augmentation specialist Siegfried Wienermeister. Even the most hardcore fans of the original cult classic will never discover that human flesh tastes like chicken until they watch this hysterically tasteless funny version! Can you say immediate classic?

Ah Uwe Boll, Destroyer of dreams.

The House of the Dead could have had Resident Evil's place as the definitive Video Game Zombie flick in the hands of a competent director.

On topic, only Sega media purchases I can claim are the old Neon Genesis eps and ending movies, which Sega has some significant involvement in.

Hm..

Adventures of Sonic (Seasons 1 &2)
SatAM Sonic (Complete)
Sonic OVA
Sonic X (Seasons 1 & 2)
Volumes 1 & 2 of the older Evagelion DVDs that showed the Sega logo at the beginning and end
One of the Sakura movies...can't remember the name of it right now..

I believe the Sakura TV series also held the Sega logo before it started...could be wrong...

Oh!  And Wreck-it-Ralph!!  Since..well, Sonic and several other Sega characters made an appearance there...

There was also a Virtua Fighter anime that was brought over to the US and dubbed.  Used to own it, but it was pretty bad in my opinion..Ended up giving it to a friend several years ago.

Hmmm, I own the Sakura Wars OVAs, TV series and movie.

I have the Sonic OVA movie and a couple of DVDs of Sonic X.

Virtua Fighter is another Sega anime I own and I wished that they continued dubbing the second series.

I have yet to buy House of the Dead and I've watched the second movie on Sci Fi. In someways, the second is way better than the first but I think they should start all over because Uwe Boll f***'d it up.

Sakura Wars movie, and if TMS also matters, company that SEGA already owned before the merger with Sammy, then, a bunch of stuff, such as a lot of LUPIN the 3rd movies, OVAs, one Sonic X DVD, other suff and visual material included with special/collector's of SEGA J games.

??? VF never had a second season, it only had one season in Japan and unfortunatly it never got the chance to complete that, hench the reason why it ended so quickly.

Yeah but i guess you have to include the stuff that TMS actually owns and not the stuff they license like LUPIN the 3rd.

Well i guess if the game started life on a sega hardware...but myself i only going for the sega owned stuff. On that note as mentioned before, Sega has sponsered a lot of anime shows or been involved with their production too like some of the FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR stuff and the second Battle Royale movie or BLEACH which they were the sponsers of the show.

On another note, I checked out COH and Sega did a promotion with Sony Pictures in a gveaway of the movie back in march so i guess Sega has embraced the film as part of their material. So i might as well buy it.

It did, but only in Japan. Anime Works never bought the rest on the episodes in English.

Yeah, there were a total of 35 episodes made, 24 dubbed.

Anyway, I recently bought the Sakura Wars TV series, and I got Sonic SatAm on DVD years ago. Aside from that, I also downloaded and watched the Panzer Dragoon movie. It was....pretty terrible.

A standard japanese season for a regular anime is 52 episodes, Anything that reaches lower than that is considered a flop. The real succesful animes can go longer than that. VF only reached 35 episodes in Japan which isnt great in japanese TV terms. So there was never a second season of VF in Japan.
