If it bleeds, we can kill it: Alien Vs Predator
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:22:58 am »

So, I was gonna make a thread for the demo, but seeing as the game is out soon may as well make it AVP general.

Does this Demo actually work or what? I've been searching and waiting in lobbies for like 15 minutes now. I wish they had some kind of offline mode, even with just a bot or something so I could at least see what it's like in motion.

I was unable to join a game, apparently it is being addressed.

Really makes me want to buy the full release if the demo is broken!

I managed to get some luck and played 2 games of AVP just a while ago.

Really cool game actually, played one match as a Predator and one as a Marine.

Predator is cool, but I found that you depend very heavily on melee combat, there aren't a lot of ranged weapons that I found on the map. Their vision modes are useful, particulalry the Alien finding one, since those guys are sneaky buggers.

The marine feels really different, needing to remember to use Stimpacks, and also to block/melee etc. Vision is really limited, even with the flashlight, so you need to make good use of the motion tracker. Very frightening way to play, it's cool to see the motion tracker going crazy, spin around and have an Alien stalking you.

I thought the beeping from the motion tracker was pretty intense. Once gamers start working together it could be something special.

I agree, the deathmatch was fun, but I think it'll be even better in Species Team Battles or Survival MOde.

Seems like the matchmaking is fixed, or at least much better than it was. Got into a match very fast last night.

Playing as a Marine is really nerve shattering, the motion detector coupled with the poor vision makes it really tense!

Makes it all the more fun when you knock an alien on it's arse and shoot the shit out of it though  :afroman:

I played as Aliens most of the time because they are faster, even though the climbing feels a bit odd and broken. I loved sneaking behind people and killing them. Though that whole "sneak and kill" sucks because if someone is looking at you do it, they can go behind you and take you out. You are defenseless.

Also the PS3 version looks blurry as hell compared to the 360 version that is all crisp.

I finally got around to the demo.

It might just be the mode, but I really really hated it. It seems like a game that would play way way better on single player than multi, though.

I love the original that came out in 1999/2000, and I was glad it was put on Steam for a cool $4.99, but I couldn't get the demo to load a multiplayer game for me.

I think it will be a pretty cool game if/when it gets working.

Who were you playing as? Any particular reasons you didn't like it?

I played as a marine and a predator. I just cannot think of anything I liked. Pretty much thought it was all-round not enjoyable.

Not really terrible, I guess, just... I do not like any of it.

Well I don't know what to tell you then. Get Bayonetta instead.

He's probably the sort that rides unicorns with no pants on that low down dirty pirating guy.

But yeah, I found it pretty fun, although I thikn the single player will be where I'll really enjoy the game.
Survival Mode should be great fun too thoug.
