It's not a cheap game, but not absurdly expensive either. If you buy it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Hard to go wrong with a Taito shooter.

So I've seen. It could be much worse in terms of price, admittedly. The only other Taito shooter I have is Chase H.Q. II for Genesis. Fun, addicting little game, but it can be hard as fuck.

The Chase HQ series is pretty neat. The whole shooting aspect wasn't even present in the first game. You just rammed the criminal's car until it couldn't run anymore. Both games are on the Saturn, though they were exclusive to Japan. Sadly that means listening to a bunch of Japanese instead of hearing wonderful voice samples like "Let's go, Mr Driver!" or "You're under arrest for..." I'll definitely do a playthrough some day, but I want to first knock out a few other Taito games like Layer Section (RayForce) and G-Darius.

Taxi Cab Confessions: Tryrush Deppy

Tryrush Deppy (トライラッシュデッピー) is a 1996 Sega Saturn title co-developed by System Supply N-Tech and Graphic Factory Tetra. The game stars Deppy, an anthropomorphic taxi cab, in a race across America from New York to Las Vegas. Despite the racing theme, this is actually a platformer. While the game does emphasize the need to move quickly, it's really more about exploration and blowing up baddies than anything else.

Deppy takes place across five main stages, and for the most part, it's typical platformer fare: Jump this, destroy that, and solve the occasional puzzle in between. The game also tosses in a few secrets dealing with collectibles and side missions like rescuing your fellow racers. Add in a chargeable rush attack and a gas gauge that constantly needs to be replenished and there's just enough variety here to keep things interesting.

Overall the game looks and sounds very nice. The art is bright an colorful and the music cheerfully upbeat. Deppy's various sprite animations are especially well done. I'm sure it was a point of pride among the artists.

On the gameplay side, I found things to be fun but frustrating at first. It's hard to get used to how the character handles. Deppy is slow to get up to speed and tends to slide before coming to a complete stop. In effect, he handles like a clumsy car which makes for some very imprecise platforming. This can be overcome by pressing the d-pad in the opposite direction of travel, but you're still always going to feel like the character is on ice.

Deppy's production run must not have been very long as it seldom shows up for sale online. In fact, more sought after rarities like Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga seem far more common in comparison. It typically fetches anywhere from 100 to 200 USD on eBay. I don't know if it's worth that sort of money, but if you're a Saturn afficionado and looking to add a decent platformer and a truly scarce title to your collection, Tryrush Deppy is the perfect choice to fill the void.

Haven't played it. I don't own a physical copy, and I'm not really big on RPGs. SGGGD says that it's not too difficult to figure out but requires some trial and error. There are also a few walkthroughs on GameFAQs that might help.

This run was a personal best. Didn't continue until level 6. Had to credit feed a bit on the final boss though.

Playing with a modern analog gamepad really makes all the difference here. While the cars still don't have much grip, a proper analog stick allows for a far greater degree of control than you can get with any of the Saturn's own peripherals.

I always thought it was pretty cool how one of the best action movies of all time also happens to technically be a Christmas flick.

You and Lauren ought to try out DHA. Legitimately good game but corny as all hell. I'm sure you two would have a blast.

I know, right? The first Lethal Weapon is techincally a Christmas movie. It even opens with "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms. Shame it didn't get a good game. If I remember correctly, wasn't there an NES game?

Funny you should mention that. I was going to re-visit Die Hard Arcade with Lauren since I didn't go into the multiplayer in my review. Unfortunately, Lauren is now my boss, so we can't make any more videos together unless I get promoted or switch jobs. Our workplace has a strict "no fraternization" policy in place....

It sucks.
