I really really need to play BR again... I've owned it for 10 years and have yet to really play it much. I think because my Saturn's memory died and I lost my save, but I have a memory cart now so no excuses really.

After I lost my original Saturn (and not having many games for it) I've been wanting to get on eBay to get my collection rebuilt with some of the bigger games to land on the system. That said, I haven't even considered getting imported games for the system. Japan got a LOT of Saturn games we didn't, and they're all interesting and kind of quirky. What are some recommendations?

Some of the rarer games I got include Magic Knight Rayearth and Saturn Bomberman. I've been wanting to at least pick up the first Panzer Dragoon, but people keep hiking up the price on that game. After it became difficult to find Saturn games for cheap, I started going after Dreamcast games I missed, which is much easier to handle.

Saturn collecting is pretty ridiculous anymore. People want 25-30 bucks even for Japanese shovelware that two or three years ago you could get for a flippin' dollar. A couple of the more moderately priced games: NiGHTS into Dreams (HD remake is a pretty good substitute though), Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Assault Suits Leynos II, Layer Section/Galactic Attack (both versions are cheap), Dynamite Deka, Virtua Cop 1 and 2 (only if you have a CRT and Stunner), Sega Rally, Daytona Circuit Edition (the Japanese version, not CCE which is the US version) ,Solar Eclipse (US version), Gale Racer (only if you have a 3D pad), and Sonic 3D (US version, but only if you have a 3D pad). This was all stuff that a couple years ago, would run you anywhere from a couple bucks up to maybe $20 or $25. I'm not sure now though.

I really really need to play BR again... I've owned it for 10 years and have yet to really play it much. I think because my Saturn's memory died and I lost my save, but I have a memory cart now so no excuses really.

You have to look at it in the context of a game from that era to fully appreciate how amazing it was. The whole futuristic firefighting concept hasn't been done since and is thus still unique. It would be neat to see Sega do a sequel or remake one of these days.

Barry, I blame Ebay when they invented "Buy It Now" so people just put what they think something is worth and hope eventually someone pays it.  When everything was an auction, you could see the true value of things by seeing the end price, or near end price of games.  Now actual Ebay auctions are pretty rare.

Too true. I'd much prefer a bidding war for Panzer Dragoon Saga with the opening bid of $100 to a $400 buy it now auction.

Case in point: A ton of SEGA Pico consoles are on ebay with Buy It Now prices of $50+, and that doesn't even include the $15-20 shipping fee. Nopbody is biting. Meanwhile I placed a bid on a Pico w/ 7 games for $10 + $20 shipping and after a little bidding battle I won it for $22 + $20 shipping. $40 total is a much fairer price than $70-$80. They're just not worth that much!

It still happens. I've been tracking Panzer Dragoon Saga auctions lately looking for a good deal so that I can completely my current copy, and I've seen a couple start at 100. They always manage to get to $300, though I can't help but think that all of the buy it nows that range from $320 to $470 are driving the auctions that high.

I'm a stickler for condition, and you just have too many people one eBay who flat out lie about the condition of their merchandise. Unfortunately, eBay won't do crap. They figure that so long as the game is functional, the terms of the sale were met. That's why I'm really hesitant to plop down $400-$500 on these auctions that claim they have mint copies of Saga.

The other reason: Saga seems to be packaged the same way as Enemy Zero. I bought a brand new sealed copy of Enemy Zero a couple years ago. The multiple discs are stored in black coarse-textured paper sleeves. Even if you buy a brand new copy of a game that uses those sleeves, the discs will probably be scratched.

Both copies of Enemy Zero and Panzer Dragoon Saga were in "like new" condition when purchased, and there aren't so much as light surface scratches on 'em. I'd say, so long as you're buying from a seller's whose profile is primo - over a thousand transactions with 99% feedback - then you should be fine. That's a rule I follow. If I set parameters lower, I ALWAYS get fucked.

Hmm, perhaps it was just a certain batch that got those crappy sleeves.

Perhaps, or the jackass left 'em out all the time so they would collect dust, or bits of cat litter, etc. I've had my share. I once found beach sand in a PS1 game. The only explaination I could come up with was that some numbnut took the PS1 portable bundle out tail gating near Royal Palms or some shit. What the fuck?!

Otherwise, the sleeves mine have are black and/or white paper sleeves. They don't have a slick interior or anything. I tend to be anal when it comes to proper disc handling. I watched a friend of mine just grab a damn disc, fingers making contact with the surface! I almost slapped him and it wasn't even my disc, because I'm sick of listening to the twat bitch and moan about his games failing to work. IT'S CALLED TAKING CARE OF YOUR SHIT, BRIAN?!?!

No, Enemy Zero was brand new and sealed. Even had the adhesive plastic tab on the back that lets retailers hang games from pegs.

I'm probably more anal than you when it comes to this sorta stuff. If I get a game with dust, fingerprints, or any other foreign substance, I'll hit 'em with compressed air and then use cotton swabs to apply isopropyl alcohol diluted with distilled water.

Cool vids!

Could you do a run of Nekkatsu Oyaku (possibly 2 players) making use of the extended movelist that the Saturn version has over the PSX? Not many people know of that . Playing the game with a partner can expose of the engine's  expansive... almost broken nature. 3 out of 5 bosses can be volleyed back and forth with juggles... and even with throws! Very fun to perform.

People think the PSX version is superior... but actually not many people know but the Saturn version is a revised version and a pretty superior one:

- Multiple special moves added for characters- Some animation frames added- Some animation frames altered (for example Rando's dashing kick)- Bosses have extra attacks and animations- Some enemy sprites redrawn (Vandammes for instance)- Presentation of the game is altered (stage intro's etc)- Enemy falling physics modified to allow for easier juggling- Moves are more cancelable to allow for more combo's- Rando moves much faster (in the ps version he is insanely slow)

You can find the movelist online (in japanese):
http://www2.u-netsurf.ne.jp/~syou526/010921-ss-oyako.html

Rando Movelist:
Dash - Double tap left or right
Double Jump - double tap jump button

Normal Moves
A - Punch
A x 2 - Punch then launch
A x 3 - Punch, launch then kick

Dashing Moves
While Dashing + A - Elbow
While Dashing + A x 2 - Elbow then kick
While Dashing + Down + A - Sliding kick

Jumping Moves
While Jumping + A - Jumping kick
While Jumping + Down+ A - Body Press
While Dash Jumping + A - Big flying kick
While Dash Jumping + A x 2 - Double flying kick

Grabbing Moves
While grabbing + A - Chest knee, up to 3 times
While grabbing + left or right + A - Throw
While grabbing + Down + A - Suplex
While grabbing + Jump - Piledriver
While grabbing + Jump x 2 - Super Piledriver
After piledriver has landed - immediately press jump again to jump away and cause an explosion once you land.

Special Moves
C - Desperation move (decreases chunk of health)

Forward, down, down forward - Shoryken(Saturn Only)

Up, Down, Forward - Big slash, can also be done in air(Saturn Only)

Forward, Down, Back + A - Big punch, due to the awkward command you need to buffer the command off something otherwise Rando turns around and just does a normal punch. Can also be done while grabbing. If you hold the right trigger button you maintain whatever direction you are in, and won't turn around.(Saturn Only)

While on low health, Forward, Down, Back + A - Super move

That's awfully strange. I haven't encountered that issue yet.

Admittedly, I haven't had to resort to such treatment too often. The last time was Corpse Killer: The Graveyard Edition. The seller neglected to mention just how badly the game had been scratched. Can't say I was too broken up about it, but - damn it - motherfucker lied to me. On top of that, I paid a bit extra since it was complete. One of the things I miss about visiting shops. At least I could look at my items before purchasing 'em.

I will eventually get to some beat-'em-ups. There are only a handful on the Saturn so it shouldn't be hard to knock them all out. Off the top of my head, there's this, Crows, D&D, DHA, Three Dirty Dwarves, and Guardian Heroes. Am I forgetting any?
