LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA...I'M NOT LISTENING...LA, LA, LA...

In all seriousness though, Batman and Off World Interceptor Extreme were probably the worst Saturn games I owned as a kid. I got more fun out of Myst, and I couldn't figure out what the fuck I needed to do in Myst!

Batman Forever: The Arcade Game was an "okay" beat-'em-up, I feel. I had more fun with than Batman Returns on SNES. Off-World Interceptor Extreme is fun, but it grows monotonous over time. MST3K-style cutscenes caught me off-guard though.

I'm not sure "fun" is the right word to describe that game, but "monotonous" is certainly fitting. As for the cutscenes, you gotta wonder whether the MST3K treatment was planned for them from the very beginning. My guess is probably not.

I've been wondering that myself. I just picked it up a couple of weeks ago at my toy dealer, and it was complete for $5. When I first popped it in, it was....confusing. LOL!

Five for that game isn't too terrible. If you want a Crystal Dynamics game for the Saturn that's actually good though, grab Solar Eclipse. It's pretty cheap too.

Pity I recorded this before I figured out OBS and got settled on a format. Ah well...

Fuck! I've had so many opportunities to pick that up. Wish I had now. Interesting how the presentation is very similar, though Solar Eclipse looks a bit more sophisticated.

I will eventually get to some beat-'em-ups. There are only a handful on the Saturn so it shouldn't be hard to knock them all out. Off the top of my head, there's this, Crows, D&D, DHA, Three Dirty Dwarves, and Guardian Heroes. Am I forgetting any?

Aside from Tenchi wo Kurau 2 (Warriors of Fate), Batman Forever: The Arcade Game and Crows: City of Angels game.

Although I do believe Nekkatsu Oyako is deeply underappreciated and needs a bit of spotlight, because of the lack of knowledge about it's movelist and most people playing the weaker *PSX* version because the internet said it was the best version (some players have suggested it having 'less' slowdown, but I never noticed this and I played both, since PSX was fan-translated... but Saturn exclusive stuff really does the game good).

Crows: Battle Action is interesting playthrough. That's one of the games I never had the chance of owning.

I did had the option of buying the game for 80 bucks when I was in Japan, but I'd rather spend my money for something more special which was the uber rare and one of my favorite beat'em ups (or Belt-u Sklolll according to the Mak Japan seller) 'Big Fight: Big Trouble in the Atlantic Ocean' arcade PCB, worth every 600 bucks (incl. bloody customs tax). Would love to see Crows: Battle Action from beginning to end to see what I missed out on.

Some other Saturn games that needs some proper spotlight treatment.
- Hansha de Spark!
- Vatlva
- Steamgear Mash
- Savaki
- Hissatsu!
- Goiken Muyou Anarchy in the NIPPON
- Super Tempo

Good to see you already did Tryrush Deppy

Where did you hear PS1 version of Oyaku was considered better? I looked the game up on Google, one of the first things I got was this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-uH0AOpaYA

Saturn pretty clearly blows it out of the water.

Man, I really want Super Tempo. WHY IS THAT GAME SO EXPENSIVE?! If I can get it, you can bet they'll be a SEGAbits review this year.

I've personally never cared for it, but then again I don't remember that cutscene. Guess I need to give it another shot. You can pick it up cheap here:

I know, because I've come across it the last few times I was there. LOL! Amazing store. However, I can't afford it until next month. Already spent some game money on complete copies of Air Diver and Vectorman. Not a lot, no, but I'm on a tight budget until June.

It's a legitimately good railshooter. In fact, I'd say it's one of my all-time favorites. The cutscenes and comm-traffic only enhance the experience. For the most part, they hired some pretty good actors, including Claudia Christian from Babylon 5.

As of this moment, I've got four gameplays recorded for the next three weeks. The plan was to record a bunch of shorter games over the next few weeks to build up a buffer while I concentrated on a couple longer games / games I haven't ever played, but we'll see. If I don't get around to it soon, I will get to it eventually. I promise it'll be the first new beat-'em-up I tackle.

Anarchy in the Nippon has always intrigued me. Playing as a middle-aged salaryman with a kancho attack does have its appeal.

Super Tempo is a game that I actually own a sealed copy of. I've played through most of it before using a burnt image though. Unfortunately, I got stuck near the end at this part where some semblance of musical knowledge is required. I have none, heh.

Own this one too. Fun game for the most part, but I'm not a big fan of the controls which are both sluggish (when you start moving) and slippery (when you're trying to stop). I get this is because Deppy is a car, but it's kinda annoying and makes precise platforming difficult.

Thrust into battle with Steam Heart's! (NSFW)

http://youtu.be/AEt725kYH1Q

Steam Heart's (スチーム・ハーツ) is a PC-98 title developed by TGL, which was later ported to the Sega Saturn in 1998. The game is a vertical scrolling shooter interspersed with cutscenes featuring explicit sexual content. While the Saturn version does include these scenes, they were toned down significantly to the point where the game received only a yellow label rating.

Steam Heart's is an odd duck. Usually Saturn games like this come in the form of dating sims or strip majong but not this one! Nope, Steam Heart's is a shoot-'em-up. Mind you, it's not a very good shoot-'em-up, but it is a shoot-'em-up nonetheless. As if that weren't strange enough, the story revolves around curing rampaging elves and catgirls of a mind-altering disease by defeating their giant mechs and then shooting your load into them (the girls, not the mechs, weirdo).

As I mentioned before, the actual shooter portion of Steam Heart's isn't so hot. Level design is rather plain and enemy attack patterns leave a lot to be desired. The game does put an impressive amount of enemies and projectiles on screen at the same time, but this only leads to massive slowdown. The powerup system features a couple interesting weapons like the laser sword, but avoiding powerups that you don't want is a serious chore. Probably my biggest complaint has to do with hit detection. Instead of lives, your ship can take seven hits before it explodes, forcing you to continue. There's nothing wrong with this concept, but unfortunaely, there isn't any real feedback when your ship runs into a projectile. Even worse, there's virtually no invulnerability period after taking a hit, so if you fly into a barrage of bullets, you're pretty much screwed. Sadly, the Saturn port is the most playable version of this game. The PC-98 and Turbo CD versions have even more problems!

Due of it's unique place in the Saturn's library, Steam Heart's is an expensive purchase. Unless you're a serious collector though, I don't recommend getting it. Save your money for something that's actually worthwhile.
