What are SEGA Hard Girls?
Sega Hard Girls (セガ・ハード・ガールズ) is a Japanese multimedia project produced in collaboration with ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint and video game company Sega. The project re-imagines various Sega video game consoles as anthropomorphized goddesses who appear all over modern Japan. It features many references to Sega hardware and software over the years.

Games:
- The Sega Hard Girl 'Dreamcast' makes an appearance in Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax.
- A crossover game with Compile Heart's Hyperdimension Neptunia series, tentatively titled Hyperdimension Neptunia vs. Sega Hard Girls: Dream Combination Special, has been announced for PlayStation Vita.
- Costumes for Hard Girls, 'Dreamcast,' 'Saturn,' and 'MegaDrive' can be worn in Phantasy Star Online 2.
- A number of Sega Hard Girls appear in the hugely successful free-to-play mobile game Chain Chronicles.


Anime:
An anime adaptation titled 'Hi☆sCoool! SeHa Girls,' which was produced by TMS Entertainment using the MikuMikuDance animation software and directed by Sōta Sugawara, aired in Japan between October 8[6] and December 24, 2014 on Animax and was simulcast by Crunchyroll. Sugawara also co-wrote the anime's screenplay with Masayuki Kibe. The CG character designs used in the anime were co-designed by Sugawara and Kio, who based the designs on Kei's original concepts. Shigeyuki Watanabe handled the CG direction.[6] The opening theme is "Sehagaga Ganbacchau!!" (セハガガがんばっちゃう!!?) sung by Dreamcast (Mao Ichimichi), Sega Saturn (Minami Takahashi) and Mega Drive (Shiori Izawa). The ending theme is "Wakai Chikara (Sega Hard Girls Mix)" (若い力-SEGA HARD GIRLS MIX-?) sung by SC-3000 (Mai Aizawa), SG-1000 (Yū Serizawa), SG-1000 II (Naomi Ōzora), Game Gear (Minami Tanaka) and Robo Pitcher (Haruna Momono). The anime has been licensed in North America by Discotek Media for a physical release in 2015

Light Novel:
A light novel series, 'Gendai Nihon ni Yatte Kita Sega no Megami ni Arigachi na Koto' or 'Sega Goddesses Tend to Appear in Modern Japan' is written by Tōru Shiwasu, with illustrations by Kei. It began serialization in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko Magazine on June 10, 2013. ASCII Media Works published the first volume on December 10, 2013 under Dengeki Bunko imprint. The second volume followed on June 10, 2014.

Had a few moment and thought I would make this (after seeing those sweet tshirts) I'm not crazy big into the whole, idol girl thing going on in Japan right now, but I think SEGA should make a proper go of this. If there is one Nintendo has taught the world, Nostalgia sells... And if Nostalgia can convince me to make an official topic about this weirdness then I think that's proof enough.

What would direction would you guys like to see SEGA take this in? Personally I could see a Guilty Gear/Persona Ultimax style 2D fighter featuring all the 'SEGA Hard Girls' being pretty cool. With moves representing the console they're based on some how and arenas based on various SEGA games. I'd buy it!

And while I'd never play it I reckon a Project Diva style rhythm game would be very popular.

I don't think that's necessarily true, you can get official merchandise like those SEGA controller hoodies and so on. I think it's more so that SEGA West have less faith that anime girls dressed as games consoles will be popular in the West... And probably, rightfully so.

Personally I'd rather have a cheap parody RPG in the vein of the show itself and SEGAGAGA

We will have to wait and see if these girls can succes in the west. I already know some guys who actually know them and are big fans, and they were not fans of SEGA in the first place actually. If they can "appeal" an audience that is the Otaku audiance for example.

Not particularly interested in this series, but I do love when Sega shows some love to it's past and heritage. It would be cool to see Sega make a big compilation game/series that was 'hosted' by the girls. You could have games from all different eras and have the girls introduce the games or give some history.

Kind of like Mega Drive collection, but with games from Mega Drive, Master System, Saturn etc. For Japan they could play up the girls, and in the West they could play it down and slap SOnic on the cover or something, but still keep them as little 'guides' that introduce the games.

Besides that, most of SEGA Hard Girls has or is making it over to the west. The anime had official English subtitles via Crunchyroll, Chain Chronicles was released here, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax is going to be localized, and there's never been a Neptunia game that didn't get or isn't getting a release in the west so Hyperdimension Neptunia vs. Sega Hard Girls making it over is likely as well.
