I was saying the whole time I figured Sega didn't port 5R due to having something else up their sleeve, which turned out to be Final Showdown. I'm just saying that there was definitely a backlash from the community as 5R was a MAJOR update to the series.

Having said that, they ported both 4 and 4EVO but then skipped Final Tuned.

Right, but I don't think this is what really hurt their image. These people would probably dislike SEGA in anycase for something else.

I think it's a damning assessment of SEGA Europe/America when the CEO of the company comes out and says:

“We’ve learned a lot about the western market from Atlus. If we can deliver high-quality titles to fans of Japanese games, I think we have a decent chance of making it overseas.”

Like how useless does your Western operation have to be that a small time publisher the parent company acquired is giving them more input in how to market your games.

Bodes well for the future of titles like Yakuza and 7th Dragon I feel.

Think about the last time you remember Satomi seating down and giving a major interview about SEGA.

I wonder who is at fault here more and if the recent changes at the Western Branches will allow them to have a better focus on that aspect/goal.

Kenzan has Kiryu having sex with a child.

It's a sidemission but it gives you an idea what Kenzan is like.

Haruka also works at a brothel and is an in-training geisha.

I don't mean to derail this even further, and I'm even more wary of what people will assume of me for asking this, but is there any video of this? I've spent years volunteering to combat child trafficking, so I assure everyone that I'm not asking for any reason other than strictly morbid curiosity.

I mean, I comprehend a desire to be historically accurate, but at what cost? And with your lead character? What on earth could the dialogue possibly be like there, and what commentary does it offer on the matter?

I understand that I'm bringing strong cultural bias into this, but pre-buyout Sega always seemed to have a pretty vested interest in empowering female characters compared to the rest of the industry in the 80's, 90's, and early 00's, so even with cultural divides considered this still seems wildly out of character. I mean, the Yakuza series has always been kind of out of character in this regard, but this kind of content is, as far as I know, unprecedented for a mainstream game release.

Heh, all these people just expecting HD remasters rather than good new titles.

Sega just has "reputation" indeed...

I can only talk from the games I follow, I know that Sega gained a lot of anger from the VF community with that at least.

When you couple it with stuff like Valk 3, Yakuza 2 and PSO2 (the big one) it all rolls together into a negative image.

Well that's because Sega has so many loved titles that people want to see again. It's easy to know what we want in that case, but 'New Titles' is so incredibly broad how are we supposed to get excited? It could be anything from an arcade racing game to a 4X Space Sim. But a sequel to *your favourite Sega game* is always going to be just that.

I know the Western branch wasn't receptive to Phantasy Star, Virtua Fighter, Binary Domain and Hatsune Miku, they only complied because Japan wanted those games to be released here.

Sorry I don't have any vidoes at hand (Go figure with it being Japan only) but you could research into it, the whole game is set in the red light district.

Sure but there's a lot of revisionist history with stuff like Yakuza (Let's not forget, a reason for the delay was also getting it past Sony who didn't allow Japanese dub only games on their platform) and Virtua Fighter I feel.

True but he might still be the master of PR fluff.

This sounds great, I just hope it happens. If it does, I hope SEGA are rewarded for their efforts too. A new game at TGS! :)

I'll believe it when i see it, consistently anyways.

If Alien Isolation is any indication of the Company moving more towards quality, then i like it. Game is fantastic so far.

True but he might still be the master of PR fluff.

Then what would the point be of giving an interview to Famitsu, especially when he could have just said "Look we're really awesome, see that Chain Chronicle, over $100 million, $100 MILLION!" it's one thing if he was hyping up his own products, it's another to say they haven't been doing as well and they need to improve on what they're capable of.

This isn't a random interview given at E3 about Sonic going back to his roots but something about the sort of direction the company is going in. Definitely we will see further expansion into China and maybe thanks to Atlus' involvement, further localisations.

Sonic Boom 2, Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, Project Sonic Diva Boom and Like a Sonic Boom: Throne of the Sonic Boom King.

Please be excited.

I think he is talking specifically about SEGA Japans output, SEGA Europe are doing pretty well all round.

Satomi is a man of sincere and true words, he has to since he can't lie to shareholders...when Sammy bought Sega, he outright said that Sega has been in the red for the last 10 years and that company directors did not take response for the financial downfall.

Also I'd like the full interview from Famitsu rather than this small excerpt...there was this comment of letting Atlus use old Sega IP but that was just a small part of that interview.

Really hope you're right.

Just keep your expectations in check, don't expect Crazy Taxi 4, Shenmue 3, Skies of Arcadia 2, Streets of Rage 4 etc but maybe a few more localisations like 7th Dragon and a few C tier franchises/IPs and you might be happy.

Yep I'd love to read it, I'm sure there was a lot more than just a few snippets like we're getting.
