Is not different than any Casino in Las Vegas or similar.

Taking money with gambling has been established since the first time people use something valuable as "tradeable".

Personally, I have a revulsion about gambling "games." I think they're an ugly and evil concept. From the Wikipedia entry on pachislots:

"The levels provide a rough outcome of between 90% to an astonishing 160% (200% if using skills). Indeed, the Japanese slot machines are "beatable." The parlor operators naturally set most of the machines to collect money, but intentionally place a few paying machines on the floor so that there will be at least someone winning,[citation needed] encouraging players on the losing machines to keep gambling, using the psychology of the gambler's fallacy."

Sure, they're "beatable" only if and when the operators set them to be. Otherwise you're guaranteed to lose. It's just a bit perverse that more innocent, fun games are being mined for their happiness and nostalgia factors in order to attract people to these repugnant, depressing machines.

So are cigarettes, but are you going to outlaw slot machines? I think people should be responsible for what they spend their money on. Also this is Sammy, that's what they do. Can't expect them not to make new machines. Their sales have been low due to lack there of new machines.

I know it's not any different than Vegas or any other established gambling scheme. The thing is, it's people with no imagination and no vibrant spirit who think Vegas is actually fun. They are dead end people with no vision, so yeah, they're having fun getting taken for a ride and being separated from their money with the paper-thin illusion of playing a game. I just think it's repulsive to take something that's genuinely fun and creative, and put its name on these soul-sucking husks. But yeah, that's Sammy. Sega and Sammy being together... it's like your favorite girlfriend ended up married to a prison warden, or worse.

I can see why Sammy wanted SEGA: They had IPs that would work with their machines, they own amusement centers and obviously operate the same way (arcade games/Pachinko slots are popular in Japan due to foot traffic).

But yeah, their separate companies. When SEGA released all those games that failed (but we liked around her) it was Sammy's money that kept them going. I don't think pachinko slots are bad, in the end its just a machine. You don't get mad at weapon manufactures for making guns, but the people that use them irresponsibly. I don't know exactly how Sammy runs its business, but like stated before its up to the operator to set the number of wins.

Honestly if Sammy didn't allow this, someone else would and Sammy wouldn't be #1 in the pachinko slots market. Its a shady business and can become illegal at any time, I'm not shocked that Sammy has been spreading their roots just in-case one market dies out. (They own anime studios, Atlus, Index, Toho Animation, Marza, Sega Toys etc etc)

Not sure if it's true, but I heard they stick the beatable machines near the entrance to entice passersby. I'm in the same boat as you though, don't like the concept of these machines (or similar) at all.

Centrale, there are a LOT of ways to con stupid people out of their money... As the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted. A lot of people (most?) already know how these machines operate and know the house always wins in the end... They do it anyway.

Exactly. If there wasn't a market for it out there, then they wouldn't be manufacturing these machines. I have no issue with this.

Hey now, casinos can be fun! Sure slot machines and the like are just made to make people lose money, but there is also the chance of winning money, and that's where some people find their fun. Of course like any form of entertainment, people can become addicted and part with a lot of money (let's not pretend that some hardcore game collectors are not just as bad as slot machine addicts).

I haven't been to Vegas yet, but I have been to some of the big casinos on the East Coast and in the "Wild" West and the glitz and glamour and high stakes are all part of the fun. Let's not forget the free drinks. I went to a casino in Deadwood and it had this cheesy wild west vibe, tons of wild looking machines, and the drinks were free. Sure I lost $10 playing video blackjack, but I got a whisky and a martini out of it, and got to experience this weird automated black jack machine with pre-recorded busty dealer women. It was just all part of the experience.

Should I ever visit Japan, I'd love to hit a pachinko parlor. Even better if I spot a Bayonetta machine!

I've been to pachinko parlors in Tokyo . It's reasonably fun so long as you know what you're doing - you don't plan to spend or make a lot of money. It's just a way to spend thirty minutes before dinner or something. I know people get hooked, but honestly, they do on drinking as well.

I've never been to Vegas, but Macau is something else. I think it's just the cheesy James Bond atmosphere that I enjoy. Gambling can be a thrill ride if you play it safely and have a set amount of money you want to spend and stop there.
