The only thing I want from the Adventure era is the Chao garden, everything else has been made better with games like Sonic Colours.

If you enjoy boosting more than platforming, no.

If you enjoy platforming more than boosting, yes.

Ohh...interesting. I hope they do move to that design and mechanics. Hopefully, TGS will show it :)

It's level design is a lot more boxy without many slopes and it's smaller levels have a sort of old school Mario design (random obstacles in the sky) personally I think Sonic Generations has the better and more varied level designs but Sonic Colours has a lot more content if I recall correctly.

^ I agree although Colors is not the "Sonic game" that I like (without any intention of offending anybody but this game is for Nintendo Fans and their likeness in platformers).

It's funny that ST since 2005 use their second division creativity speaking to do some "experiments" in their projects and take the good things about them.
From Rush (2005), they take the Boost gameplay to Unleashed (2008).
From Secret Rings (2007), they take "Sonic as the only primordial character" and the sales-wise kid-friendly demographic to Unleashed (2008).
For Generations (2011), it's mostly a combination of Unleashed, Colors and other things.
For the 2016/25th Anniversary game, I recall they're gonna use the better things from Lost World (2013) like the better implemented 360° control, not so much emphasis on speed and badnicks (man, in LW there are a lot of them).

I think Generations' achilles heel is its split gameplay styles tbh.  Colors has only one style of gameplay that it builds on.  The result is the most focused game in years.  There are definitely a lot of shortcuts taken to expand the content (chopped up bits of other acts repackaged as new levels) though and I realize its style of platforming won't be everyone's cup of tea.  I thought I would enjoy Generations' classic sonic levels but I ultimately found them to be a complete drag.  The physics are frustrating and the levels are very linear and restrictive.  I only ever replay the modern sonic levels when I play the game now.   

For my money Colors is the superior experience if only by a small margin.  I completely understand why some would prefer Gens though.  The thing about Colors vs Gens discussions is that it's important to remember that we all won with those games.

Here's hoping they continue to make quality games like those in the future.

Aye, both are great games. If I had to choose one however, Gen would get the vote. Colours had too much padding with special stages etc for my liking.

Despite preferring Gen, I'm surprised Colours hasn't made its way over to other consoles and PC mind.

What I liked about Gens was that they took the "filler" acts and moved them to the mostly optional missions.

With Colors, there appeared to be more content but then you'd start playing and realize that many of the acts were small skill-based stages. I actually have a cheat sheet post-it note in my copy of the game listing which acts are the regular ones so I don't have to hunt around.

Not to say that the missions in Gens or additional acts in Colors were bad, I enjoyed a lot of them, but it was nice to have them separated.

Except of course, finding the missions and trying to remember the fun ones in Gens was a nightmare.  Not that any of them were good enough to revisit.  Perhaps that's why it's best they're separated.  Bouncing music notes with vector was a bad time. 


Also I would argue none of the Colors acts were filler.  Thats why it's fun to just play egg shuttle which lets you experience levels in order just like the classics.  I was sorely disappointed that the feature was absent from Gens.

I dunno, collecting x amount of rings or balloons etc never appealed to me in either Colours or Gen. I'd rather they'd flesh out real mini games like they had beating the ghost sonic to the goal. This could be a great place to put some of the other Sonic characters like:

Espio - using his chameleon (only works standing still) ability to sneak to the goal undetected.
Tails - Flying missions.
Knuckles - Power through waves of enemies using a range of aerial, digging and fighting attacks.
Gamma - Shoot your way to the goal.

Sounds like something i'd actually enjoy. The boosting is what i've always disliked about Modern Sonic games. As much as i loved the speed of some Sonic Unleashed levels, i never cared for having to boost all of the game time and the camera angles messed me up a lot.

If Colors has more platforming then i might buy that as well. Generations has been pretty great thus far. I love how much this game is bringing me back, it's awesome.
