They're doing that probably because that's what common in mobile games.
Even Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces (mobile) are like that too.
Sonic Dash and Speed Battle is understandable because they're auto-running games.
Sonic Speed Simulator is more like a glorified "
Sonic World" game, where you can freely run around and explore. Thus the challenges aren't as limited-dimensional as the mobile games.
Just saying, if I were to introduce Shadow the Hedgehog as a playable character, I would have new warp rings in each world that leads to an ARK-themed "
obby" Given there are four worlds means there are four obbies to complete. They are themed on such ARK stages as
Crazy Gadget and
Final Chase. Especially with the use of
spinning drums and
gravity rings to really up the difficulty.
Perhaps after finishing all four ARK obbies, a fifth ring will open up where players can recreate the
race/fight with Shadow in which after beating him will unlock Shadow.
I'd much rather be challenged this way to unlock Shadow than just collecting stuff.
