"Everyone should be treated the same" is a load of bull. Acknowledging that some differences might be shortcomings and work over them is the way to go.

I once read (it might have been an hypothetical story, but still interesting) that a lady had a job at a library. She would climb up the ladder and get them books to the people. Sadly, she later lost the ability to walk and was confined to a wheelchair.
Since she couldn't really do her job now, the library managers decided to let her go and get someone else for the job.
She sued the library, claiming she wanted to be treated exactly the same and that they should construct infrastructures in order for her to keep her job.

Personally I think this situation is insane.

We should have same respect for everyone, yes. But people can't all be treated equally since everyone is different.

The charging for that service makes no sense, its like charging black people extra for coffee. I would say yes, if it had to do with transport like a airplane, pay for an extra seat. But this is fucking nails and shit, they should be happy anyone is spending money in a fucking nail shop in this economy.

"its like charging black people extra for coffee"
It is nothing like that. It isn't about ethnicity. It's about a physical aspect. They are simply too fat for the chairs. If it were me they wouldn't even be allowed to sit and risk breaking a chair.
Overweightness is a physical limitation. Fat people can't expect to have everything the same way as slim people.

Well, you can simply not fit on them or be too heavy and fall on your ass. I used to be fat, it happened.

I like barber shop chairs. They're great.

Apparently the issue is not that they do not fit in the chairs, since the customers are still being serviced for a fee. I just think if the people are getting the same care and obviously have the 'ability' to provide this care for them, its a bit stupid to charge extra.

I mean, as a business person.

In the case of fatty vs skinny asian, I side with skinny asian in that the owner should not have to refit their entire salon with chairs that are made for folks 250lbs or more. If folks of massive size and weight wish to use the salon's equipment, such as sitting in chairs, the owner should have the right to charge extra in the event that the chair breaks or have them sign a contract stating that if the chair breaks it is their own fault and not the fault of the owner.

If US law changes and obesity is deemed the same as race, religion or sexual orientation the country would go to shit. Every chair in America would have to be altered to suit folks who are twice as wide as the average person. City transportation would be sued, airlines would be sued, public places of leisure would be sued, private businesses would be sued. It would be chaos. Seating space that once was made for 100 people will be cut down to 50 just because each seat had to be altered to fit a larger frame. With populations rising, I think the last thing the country needs is seating capacity being cut down to suit the obese. Rather the money that would be used for chairs should be used for fitness programs and dietary education.

Don't do that! The Hills Have Eyes!

I'm overweight. Not overweight wide, but I'm overweight. This is not my issue though. I am a tall chap. Around 6'1'' in American measurements. Public transports here are tight. Really tight. It's not rare that I have to take part of a second seat to be marginally comfortable, I have to be on my side after all. Should I sue for this?

Personally, I think it's totally cool if a taller larger person takes part of a second seat, I mean you can't expect them to do anything else. Tall folks can't help their height and body weight ratio any more than a black person can their skin color or a male or female can their gender. In fact I'd back a tall person who was having issues with public transit or airline seats. Those things really don't give any leg room.

Thing is, there's a difference between a person who is tall and in turn their body weight matches their stature and a person who is short and is round like a plum because they eat too much. Living in Philadelphia, one of the fatter cities in America (#15 on the list with a D rating), I encounter people all the time who are shorter than me (I'm 5'7") and are extremely fat and wide. They sit next to me and usually their thigh and hips encroach on my seat. Not fun. Compare this to my home of Minneapolis, MN (#88 on the list with a B+ rating). Growing up I'd see tall big people, of course, but when it came to shorter folks or average height folks very rarely would I see people who were obese. So quite clearly obesity is something that CAN be helped, and it seems the people in Minnesota know how to keep fit much better than the people in Philadelphia. I blame the cheesesteaks.

...but they're so goddamn tasty!

I am impressed at Gamestop for doing this video:

Unlike Gamespot who routinely goes to Sega's booth every year only to wander around, make bad puns and ignore almost everything on the show.

But these guys took this stuff seriously.

Yes, you should.
In fact we all should. I'm not overweight nor wide and I also usually have to sit a bit of my ass on the next seat.

If she's running the salon in the southern United States instead of a small east Asian country, then she should consider buying new equipment. The obesity statistics in these states are around 30% of the total population or above.

http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html

I understand her frustration, but you don't want to piss off 30% of the local population when you're trying to run your own business. :P

I agree with fluffy, you are in a business and need customers. You have to spend money to make it. If it means that business will increase by 30%, isn't that good?

Its all about making money in the end of the day.
