Just got back from a concert "These Kids Wear Crowns" opened for.
They played here in town on their first tour last year, and I think there were like 20 people, including myself that showed up. Completely unknown band, opening for a barely known band, playing in a very small venue, in a smaller city (80 000 people). Thing is, they were really good. My friend and I chatted with them a bit after their set, and picked up some t-shirts and their EP.
Afterwards, we subscribed to their fan-run twitter feed, and spent the last year getting others into them. This summer they got a spot on a Canadian battle of the bands type show, and ended up winning. Last month, they put out their first major label single, and have a video playing on Much Music (Canadian version of what MTV used to be like).
After their set tonight, we stopped by the merch booth where the bass player/singer was being pretty much mobbed by girls of various ages to get their picture taken with them. He saw that my friend and I had shirts on from their first tour, recognized us, and invited us backstage. We all had a good chat for the duration of the second act's set. I guess they only made 50 of the t-shirt that I had, so he said he was really surprised to see it. Got some info on when their new album's due, and what'll be on it. Then he gave us is contact info, so we can all get together whenever they're in the area.
Good times
