When I read 'Mugging' I thought you meant he was holding people up at gunpoint.

Tutition fees going to 9,000 British pounds a year ($14,214, 10,738 EUR and just for mang $14,415) after today, looks like Labour lost, the Conservatives have won and the Liberal Dems have been chickens.

A shame, a dark day for British education. I expect our system to fall rather dramatically into the deep end overall with only a few excellent universities left in the country.

I really do not like the Tories.

@MadeManGT4

Mug is also a word for face. Example: "I don't like your ugly mug."

@Aki-at

I can totally understand the college student's frustrations, however, they are wrong to think that a college degree is an entitelment, it is an investment that may or may not pay off, depending on how well you do in College.

It is not about something being an entitlement or not. And in any case, they pay that investment through general taxation if they begin to enjoy a large income. But that was not entirely my point.

Providing free education for all is beneficial to everyone in the country, it allows us to train the greatest minds ready to improve our country further and improve all the needed sectors. Having state funded courses for hair cutting is silly; having state funded courses for further education in engineering, science etc is not however.

All this will do is bring down many universities, damage our education system further and give us a fair few less graduates in the future. With a damaging recession we've just come out of, I'd expect many people having a hard time justifying going to university.

Terrible news. I'm really sorry to hear that.

I realize it may same strange to Americans to see us complaining about tutition fees, but the fear is, and a justifiable fear too, that fees will continue to rise. Plus, we already pay a large level of taxes (Which I personally do not mind myself, not sure why people are against general taxation as long as it's put to good use)

Which they have, introduced in the late 90s, at 3,000 British pounds, then top up fees were added and now we go to a maximum of 9,000 British pounds a year. It is not exactly out of the norm to see believe it to continue to rise.

While the Dreamcast Planetweb page (official site of the US Dreamcast Browser) may be dead, I discovered via archive.org that all the user submitted VMU animations still exist on the original server!

http://dreamcast.planetweb.com/vmu/vmifiles/

So I'm downloading every single one, because I know that two I created back in 2001 are in there somewhere. And there are over 5,000 of them!!! Thankfully in total it's just 60MB in size.

Wow, the average tuition for state-owned public colleges in Portugal is roughly 800/950 GBP/EUR year. However, the real cost of a student in said public college is roughly 2.500/3000 GBP/EUR per year, so about 75% is supported by tax payer money.

That's what's been pissing a lot of people off in Portugal, mainly because the current goverment, whom our PM makes Tony Blair look like Margeret Thatcher, has dumbed down education for one nasty reason:

To statiscally improve school drop-out percentages by dumbding down education so much that nobody flunks;

Which in turn results into colleges getting filled with people who, despite their best intentions, don't have the stomach or simply don't have the capacity to actually go through college.

Hopefully, this isn't the real issue with British colleges.

I like how there are more mods than posters on the site now.

Also a big fan of how the SEGA section has 5 stickies.

Releases, reviews, challenges and charts plus a temporary sticky announcing Cube isn't overkill. They all seem warranted to me.
