Incredible Lost Michael Jackson Sega Game Footage Uncovered By Fans

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJCyiUOgJSE

Quote
Digitised master footage of Michael Jackson in Scramble Training, a 1993 interactive ridefilm for the AS-1 motion ride simulator developed by Sega.
Thought to be lost even by Sega personnel themselves, the above footage - all localised segments made by writer/director Hiroshi Uemura and Kenji Sasaki, as well as filmed scenes of Jackson - was recently found on a D2 master tape sold at a car boot sale in the United Kingdom, and kindly digitised by the Oxford Duplication Centre after an appeal on Facebook was answered by Mechafatnick .

I can't get over how sheer lucky the set of circumstances that lead to this piece of Sega-MJ history being available for all of us to see! If the tape had not sold it would probably be disposed of. If some twat purchased it they'd probably keep it to themselves of ruined it. Instead it was found by someone compassionate enough to restore it digitally and put it on YouTube for all us to see!

He also said,

“It was mainly instinct, really–a bit of a blind buy, as I’d not seen anything like it before. I had to fork out £300 ($364) in order to get the purchase over the line.”

so it really wasn't cheap. He could be greedy and sold it for more money (like those prototype game CDs on ebay) but thankfully he's kind enough to share it with us.

Almost spiritual intervention from the King of Pop himself.

PlayStation 5 Lead Architect Mark Cerny Talks Sega, Michael Jackson And Yuji Naka

Quote
"I'd gone and seen Captain EO, which was a short 3D movie starring Michael Jackson.
It was showing at Disneyland in Tokyo, which had just opened, and I thought it was quite inspirational.
So I lobbied management to create 3D glasses for the Master System.
I did the tech demo, which was sort of the Pong-style game we showed at CES, and then I did the bundled title, which was Missile Defense 3-D."

Michael Jackson Was A Fan Of Sega's Altered Beast

Quote
Al Nilsen : "He was a gamer himself and looked at the screenshots they had and made a lot of comments like, ‘Well, why don’t we do this? What if I did this? What if this is how the battles go on?’
We had been told by Michael’s head of security as we were going up, ‘You have a 20-minute window that Michael likes to be in meetings, so expect this to be only 10-15 minutes long’ and we probably ended up spending over an hour with him, just Michael and I talking, with the rest of them just looking down and listening. Michael kept being called on the intercom because he was needed down in the studio, and he said, ‘I’ll be there, I’ll be there’ and just kept talking about the game."

Happy Birthday! Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Arcade, Genesis) released 33 years ago today!

Quote
In 1988, Michael Jackson contacted Sega about developing a video game that would capture his persona.
Sega and Jackson then began working on an arcade video game based on his Moonwalker film and "Smooth Criminal" music video released that year.
A prototype unit was demonstrated at Mexico's American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA) exhibition in early July 1990.
Jackson assisted Sega's game designers on the development of the game.

Michael Jackson Almost Bought Marvel Comics, Moonwalker 3D Comic, etc
The 5 Greatest Michael Jackson Moments in Comics

Quote
For real. In the ultimate "What If...?" story, Jackson met with Stan Lee and businessman Peter Paul in 2000 to discuss the possibility of buying Marvel Comics.
As The Comics Journal reported, "Jackson, who was an avowed fan of Lee's work at Marvel, was reportedly interested and sat down with Lee and Paul to discuss the possibilities. [Jim] Salicrup, who was also present, recalls Jackson saying to Lee, 'If I buy Marvel, you'll help me run it, won't you?'" The deal ultimately fell through when the current owner refused to accept less than $1 billion.

Michael Jackson's Moonwalker 3D Comic Storyboard by David B. Russel

Quote
The Moonwalker comic book was released in the 3D line: Anaglyph 3D allows to see flat images in three dimension - thanks to the special technique and the 3D glasses -, intesifying the reader's experience.
This page is in an earlier stage in the method: they are not differentiated by color (commonly red and green), but the captions are already inlayed.
For the comics, an enormous licensing fee was paid by Blackthorne Publishing, which was ...

"Our Target Is Disney" - How Michael Jackson And The AS-1 Took Sega Into The Future

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJCyiUOgJSE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sD8uoy8T_0

Quote
Continuing a long-standing association with his favourite game-making company, Jackson agreed to become involved in the simulator between tour dates in late 1992, where he made further visits to Sega's Haneda headquarters, a noted favourite past-time of his when in Japan. Extraordinary negotiations are said to have taken place – the ‘King of Pop’ was closely involved in its creation, yet did not want to be paid for his involvement. He would, however, receive an R360 for his all-encompassing private arcade, where Sega’s machines had taken pride of place since the 1980s. Jackson would go on to appear in a pre-show for Megalopolis and starred throughout as the narrator/instructor of Scramble Training, with the title renamed and reworked with new contributions from Mizuguchi’s ‘Emotion Design Lab’ to reflect this.
By the Summer of 1993, the AS-1 was finally ready for release, with Michael Jackson in Scramble Training revealed at the Summer CES in the US and a trailer for Megalopolis making its aforementioned appearance at SIGGRAPH '93. At the end of the year, the simulators were installed in several of Sega’s newest, biggest, and brightest locations up to ...
