Sega Saturn Netlink Revived with Voip
« on: July 19, 2017, 06:47:03 pm »
Just a cool little development in the Sega fan scene i thought i write about, we all know about the Sega Saturn Netlink modem that came out in 1996 and allowed internet play and web browsing in the Saturn. unlike most internet service the Netlink did not use server's to play games as it uses Direct Dial (if anybody remembers that) where you just dial you opponent and play that way. This means as long as you have a landline you can still use the Netlink, sadly landlines are starting to be a thing of the past and most people dont want to play long distance charges to play online. Some fine folks over on the Dreamcast-Talk forms have figured out how to play online with a high speed internet connection!

That's really interesting.
Too bad my saturn couldn't read games anymore.
It still could boot up and read audio on games, but somehow couldn't play anything.

Also I remember Saturn Bomberman fondly, 10 players could play on battle mode with 2 Multi-taps.
Many agree that Saturn Bomberman back than was more fun to play than Bomberman 64.

Was gutted with SEGA Europe not brining the Netlink to the UK and to me Bomberman on the Saturn is the best version of the game: the factory floor stage is a riot in multiplayer. I also played it 10 player mode, but it wasn't quite as much fun as it was just a basic stage. Street Racer on the Saturn in 8 player mode is nuts too btw

Panzer Dragoon Zwei is
One of the best 3D shooting games available

I'm really interested in this. Thanks for posting. I'm about to get my Dreamcast back online too. I have been wanting to get back on Phantasy Star especially.
