The Electronic Entertainment Expo(or E3 as we all know it) is just around the corner. Hype Trains are fired up, gifs are being prepared, and there's torches & pitchforks at MS while Sony gets showered with roses. I took the liberty to keep all the madness in one topic; FTR SEGA's showing is on a different topic: http://segabits.com/forums/index.php?topic=2541.0
With that: here's what we know(times are Pacific Time Zone):
What will be there:
Sony
Conference: June 10th 6PM
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Infamous: Second Son
DriveClub
Planeside II
Microsoft
Conference: June 10th 9:30AM
Forza 5
Titanfall
DARK
Nintendo(Not hosting event):
Smash Bros. 4
3D Mario
EA:
Conference: 3PM
Ubisoft:
Conference: 1PM
Square Enix:
Lightning Returns
Other:
Ouya event to be held in parking lot.
If you have any new info, please post so I can add it to the OP. =P
-
MS is 9:30 am, not pm. Scared me for a second as I thought I'd miss it (would have been after midnight in the eastern time zone had it been pm). Thanks for putting together a topic though!
-
Nintendo: Please understand
Sony: 599 US Dollars
Microsoft: TV Sports Call of Duty
-
I wonder what will Alienware show at their conference.
-
Cool thread.
Very very excited for this years e3. There's just so much at stake for all 3.
-
Hoping there's good Vita news.
-
I am so unbelievably hyped for this e3! 2 days left for sony and microsoft. and 3 for nintendo.
Let the hype commence! My.... My body is ready (http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/31500000/My-Body-is-Ready-random-31574400-320-319.png)

Sony best show off Last Guardian.
-
Updated with new games list.
Still no word on EA or Ubisoft.
-
Nintendo are also revealing the new Mario Kart for Wii U.
-
Sony best show off Last Guardian.
Last Guardian with next gen graphics on PS4 would be amazing.
-
I am a huge fan of team Ico. A last guardian would seriously make me start to consider getting the ps4
-
Ea conference just started. Garden warfare lol
-
Mirror's Edge 2 announced, I am hyped.
Now no DRM for Playstation 4 and I will be set.
-
No DRM, $399 and they win.
BTW, is this the most drama-filled E3 ever or what? XD
-
STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT! I kinda wish I'd gone to this EA conference. I did get an invite.
-
Yeah for ps4 price is gonna be important. Most of EA stuff was new hardware = better graphics. I like that eye candy as much as the next guy though. Some of the things looked absolutely mindblowing. Need for speed and BF4 especially. I wonder if my PC will be able to handle those.
Anyway I do rather see some original concepts. If they cant do that with existing franchises, then one new IP would have at least been a breath of fresh air.
But yeah these are risky times I guess. Possibly not something you'll find at EA.
Ubisoft is next. Wii U has been totally ignored by EA lol. Let's see if ubi will show something cool. Or something original in general for any platform. I do gotta say ubi has the strongest IP's when it comes to the publisher conferences. They at least have 1 original game which is watch dogs, and assassins creed which I love.
15 minutes left :D
-
Please let Darkstalkers Reborn for WiiU rumor be true!
-
Ubis presentation was very impressive, despite some awkward moments with that woman.
Highlights for me funnily enough were the integration of online (drm) gameplay. It seems like ubi has really embraced it and inovated upon always online strategy. Alright so ill never conform to this method of where u buy a game but u dont really own it cuz u cant play it offline. But i can at least say that ubisoft has shown its strenghts more than anyone.
Also, Assassins creed 3's world looked beautiful
-
Sony just kicked Microsoft's ass.
-
Microsoft just got kicked straight in the balls. I was going to wait a couple years to pick up a ps4 but at 399, I might bite way sooner.
-
Sony has done a fatality added with a Ultra Combo on Microsoft. Nintendo may be in the top tomorrow. Guess we have to wait and see.
-
Well it's 5:30 AM here where i'm from. I had been very much looking forward to this day and it did not disappoint. There's a lot of things i'd wanna say, but I think much has been made clear already. Sony has definitely had the best presentation so far. Nintendo's next. Let's see how they stack up
Anyway good night peeps

Sony won E3 by effectively doing very little.
Let's not get carried away, Metal Gear Solid V, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV and Mirror's Edge 2 are all multiplatform games, so it was not the titles that helped Sony win it. It was that there was no used games restrictions and the price.
I said this E3 will be legendary... And it is nothing short of it.

Every year I get a little sad though, because sega's presence is progressively reduced. It's like they're not even there any more. They're never even featured as 3rd party developers during any of the conferences.
-
It is sad we're not hearing anything from any Sega reps. As much as I've been against Sony...I think they've won me over.. I don't think a lot of people will be buying into the fact there's all that DRM on xbox and you can't even let your friend borrow your game... Wii-U and PS4 for me for sure. Though, xbox may still be in my future..just not right away.
-
Nah. Last gen was full of lulz and Sony fans being raged for 3 straight years.
-
Enjoyed how a certain SEGA fan site tweeted way too much Sony support on twitter. What a bunch of fuckin Nerds. There's a reason we don't tweet blatant console bias on the SEGAbits twitter, unless it's SEGA leaning. :)
Maybe they'll learn to properly tweet eventually. And no, if they come in here saying "that's not nice, apologize" I'll just laugh.
---
Anyway, not really feeling next gen if I'm honest. Not a huge Xbox fan, not a big Sony fan. I'll probably sit this gen out for a bit and focus on Wii U (not next gen, IMO), 360, and PS3. Considering ps4 isn't bc, there's a whole library of ps3 games I've yet to play. Why buy into next gen now when there's still that?
-

I felt that during Square's showing. What is slightly annoying is SEGA had a strong lineup last year, they would have had a ridiculously strong lineup this year (If we had PSO2, Yakuza 5 and Miku present) and would be able to hold their own press conference.
But we have seen time and again their American/Europe branch are cheap skates when it comes to marketing.
-
So Final Fantasy XV is coming exclusively to Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Welp, Sony is going from winning this E3 to having the generation on lockdown.
Although if I had to take one bad thing away from this E3, it is even now Sony's online is behind a paywall, which I absolutely hate. Lesser of two evil sure, but it is still evil and no one should stand for it. Playstation Plus is a fantastic service otherwise but I am worried about the precedent this sends.
-
Caught up with the Sony press show this morning, and I gotta say I was a bit underwhelmed. It seemed the best stuff they did was essentially not doing anything at all - e.g. no used game restrictions. Games looked good, but as far as exclusives (as Aki mentioned) it wasn't all that exciting a showing as most of the titles were multi-platform. I liked the Xbox One exclusives on show a bit more than PS4 (Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Project Spark, Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon).
As for price, good on Sony for keeping it at $400. Though, having said that there is the fact that the PS Eye is sold separate for $59 bumps the price up closer to Xbox One. I know, I know. PS4 buyers will say "but I don't want the Eye!" - well, no you won't... until Sony releases a must own game for the peripheral. In my eyes, to get the full PS4 package you're spending $20 more than the One and get an extra controller out of the deal. Not really a $100 savings when all is said and done.
Since Will was rating the press events, I'd give Microsoft a B+ and Sony an A-. I think MS delivered in terms of games and had (amazingly) a largely meme-free affair. No Kinect, which surprised me. Sony had better news, but fewer exclusives on show. Price wasn't as big a deal, as I noted above, though I do think it'll help Sony. Don't know if I should praise Sony for their best bits since, as noted, their best was doing nothing at all.
I have a feeling Nintendo will have the best show, since the hardware is out and it'll be all game focused.
-
Can they already announce Persona 5 for PS4, that is all want.
Also Microsoft gets a D for their amazing policies, great pricing, forcing Kinect when they didn't prove its needed, and not showing enough Japanese games.
-
Can they already announce Persona 5 for PS4, that is all want.
Given Atlus history, that will most likely be PS3
Or even 3DS?
-
No, don't say that. NooOoooooooOoO.
-
humbug http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/11/4417230/the-last-guardian
-
Honestly really impressed with what Nintendo showed. Only thing that kinda disappointed me was that the big new 3D Mario game is basically just a console version of Super Mario 3D Land. I mean, I love 3D Land, but I was hoping for more of a Mario 64 kind of game. Vast worlds, exploration, choosing your own path and progression, etc.
-
Last Guardian! Noooooooo.... :( Very sad. That was the game I wanted most.
-
Looks like I'm going to be sticking with PC gaming as much as possible this gen, all the consoles sound pretty rubbish (PS4 seems okayish).
It's going to take something very compelling to be exclusive for me to buy one, Bayonetta 2 is probably going to tip me in favour of buying a Wii U when it lands.
-
The ninty direct "presentation" was awful. the stream service being sd quality and getting stuck every 5 minutes didnt do it any favor either. neither did the fact that my expectations were more games and at least a metroid game. Apart from the latter, I am a lot more positive now after seeing all trailers and more in hd. like monkey mentioned, no big mario is dissapointing, but among the other games its fine i guess...
i guess its at least a positive that a mainline sonic game looks better than mario for a change.
overall i just dont know.. i feel alot better now about it then hours ago. when u think about it. all the games shown are nonetheless games that make nintendo shine as unique and different among everyone. but it really missed that one title that was also for that demographic sony/microsoft go after and done better.
i think either a new ip or metroid would have made the direct great. but it was average overall. the presentation of these titles was not doing the games justice at all either. the direct took 40 minutes. it should have veen an hour with more gameplay
-
No price drop on Wii U? Come the fuck on Nintendo. How can anyone say 'Wow, 300 dollars for a Xbox 360 is so worth it', when Sony just announced a 400 dollar PS4?
Seriously should have announced the console at 250 with a old game bundled in.
-
I was surprised at the lack of a WiiU price drop. But overall the Nintendo Direct was great! Good games shown (I was honeslty impressed to see Watch Dogs on the WiiU), there was Smash Bros love for the 3DS which is a HUGE deal. The game is going to be a huge ass success in my eyes. And yes, the new Sonic looks better than the new Mario for the first time since the 90's, let's see if the gameplay holds up.
On the Xbone vs PS4 debacle:
PS4 wins.
It feels like the PS2 era all over again. Except this time it isn't Sega being screwed over so I can actually appreciate the magnitude of the incoming PS4 launch. The Xbone just isn't fit enough to compete, the PS4 is a no-brainer. Sony analized the backlash MS got over the dumb restrictions on used games and decided to maintain the current policies.
This is VERY important. I am actually rooting for the Xbone to be a complete failure, and it has nothing to do with fanboyism. I loved the previous two MS consoles, they were great gaming machines and I played the shit out of them (literally, eventually both broke down).
But if the Xbone is a success, the whole gaming culture I grew up in will be destroyed. Sharing games, buying used and reselling, taking the console on vacation... all of that will be lost.
The industry has been strong for over 20 years regardless of the used game market. MS's interest is purely economical, fueled by corporate greed. They aren't even trying to hide it.
Mind that I won't be buying any new console soon. I think I'll wait until the inevitable slim versions. And I hope that by then MS has their game set straight. I would love to jump on a game-focused Xbox once more, though I doubt that will ever happen again.
-
I loved the previous two MS consoles, they were great gaming machines and I played the shit out of them (literally, eventually both broke down).
Literally? That means shit came out of them. Disgusting!
-
SO actual exclusive games for Xbone:
Below (Indie game)
Crimson Dragon
D4 (small episodic game?)
Forza
Halo
Killer Instinct
Quantum Break
Ryse
Sunset Overdrive
PS4:
Driveclub
Infamous
Knack
Killzone
The Order (new IP by Santa Monica)
Secret Ponchos (indie game)
Super Stardust HD 2
The rest will be on both, or on PC...really the PC plattform keeps getting increased, even with alot of 3rd person Action games and Indie game.
I really don't know why Sony and MS keeps pushing those Indie games...this whole was just confusing with their 2 conferences so I had to write it down myself...
-
I know I'll be pelted with rocks but I like Xbox One's exclusives from that list above more than PS4. Crimson Dragon, D4, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive specifically.
Is Project Spark One exclusive?
-
Neither consoles' exclusives really excite me. Now that the new installment of Metal Gear Solid is going multi-platform, Sony no longer has a hold on me beyond hardware. Unless they can produce another incredible Twisted Metal title, which I really don't see happening any time soon. Although, I do enjoy the Killzone series, so that may be worth a toss.
-
Kingdom Hearts III was the big one for me, but thats multi-plat like MGS is. Best titles appear to be multi so far.
-
Have never been a fan of the Kingdom Hearts games. I'm not saying they're bad or anything like that; they simply don't appeal to me. *shrugs*
-
Crimson Dragon on Xbox and The Order on PS4 were the only ones to really catch my eye. I am getting tired of all the flame wars about the DRM and 24-hour check-in on Xbox and how people are jumping ship to PS4.
Yeah, I'm no fan of the 24-hour check-in and I worry a little what it means about the possibility of renting game from my local Family Video to try out some full games and eventually buy it, or allowing my friends to borrow games (but I guess I could put friends under my "Family" list and let them have access to all my games...but Microsoft hasn't stated exactly how all that works yet..)
To me, it's all politics.. PS4 (republicans), Xbox (Democrats) and Wii-U (Tea Party/other). I've decided I'm getting all 3. For sure supporting Sega's ventures on the Wii-U with the Sonic exclusives and I'd really like to play Bayonetta and the new Monolith JRPG they're working on. Sega's doing mostly digital content anyway, so any future releases will likely be on all the systems at one point or another, so physical games are kinda moot at that point to me.. So, I guess personally, it just comes down to which one can I afford/want most first.
There's also 5-6 months left for Microsoft to maybe rethink their strategies. Who knows what could happen in a year with any of these systems... Sony's already starting to require PS+ for online multiplay.. Who's to say down the road with a future firmware update to PS4 that some kind of DRM or check-in won't be required?
And I just totally ranted.... Sorry, sorry!!
-
Crimson Dragon looks pretty cool.
Forza is great as always, lets see how Driveclub compares.
Killzone looks amazing.
-
I'm pretty much on the same page you are, TJKitsune.
I'm not a fan of some of Xbox One's policies, but I'm not at that point of being some anti-DRM activist, deeming anybody who has an ounce of liking for the console as some anti-consumer nazi. I swear, the people who go to the extreme of calling people who *might* get an Xbox One evil or some shit need their head's examined. A good game is a good game, I don't care about the hardware anymore. Like I said in the past, I hated Wii U, but Bayo 2 and Sonic Lost World has turned me around. Hell, even the 32X has good games. Xbox One isn't a Day One, but it is an eventual purchase.
I really think a lot of the issues arose from the ability to play games without a disc. Of course, once every 24 hour check in and some of the DRM stuff has other motives, but they very much are there to keep the loading the entire game onto your console thing in check. I think it's a cool feature, as I like to switch between disc games often. Also, with the blu-ray player, I usually have a move disc in that I am wathing bits of every morning before work. Keep the movie disc in, saves my spot, meanwhile the games I frequently play are pre-loaded on the HDD.
Anyway, as of now I'll be getting a Wii U by November. Won't get a PS4 or One for a while.
-
I wasn't very excited during the Nintendo stream, mostly due to quality/lag issues, and thought they were playing it wayyyy too safe. After watching many of the videos separately though, especially developer interviews/demos, I'm kind of in love with each of their exclusives. They haven't wowed me into an instant purchase yet, but all their games clearly demonstrate fun over cinematic bullshit.
I went from, "Cat Mario? Why the fuck would..." to "Holy crap, that looks hilarious." I imagine I'll squeeze a Wii U into my living room later this year, hopefully with a PS3 as well (finally), and a PS4 next summer.
-
3D World looks awesome. 3D Land was the first 3D Mario that I truly loved, so I can't wait for 3D World!
-
I haven't been keeping up with E3 at all this year, so I'll try to catch up once the dust settles.
So far I'm only excited for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Bayonetta 2. Hopefully by the time Bayo 2 comes around the Wii U will have a decent library of games, at least I'll probably get Bayo and Wonderful 101. I really don't have any desire to buy a Wii U, so disappointing Sega wouldn't publish themselves and release on Xbox 360/PS3/PC as well.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt I'll get on Master Race, just hope my PC can handle it.
-

A good game is a good game, yes, but when the hardware itself encroaches on privileges we as gamers have had for over 20 years kinda' sucks the fun out of it. Especially when you take into consideration that neither Sony or Nintendo are currently demanding gamers to make such sacrifices. On top of that, the current generation of gaming is aggravating enough without Microsoft making matters more difficult.
Say I'm wanting to play a game I haven't touched in awhile - most recently, it was Ghostbusters: The Video Game - and rather than playing the game, I must first download a 59mb patch and wait for it to install. It takes awhile since my connection isn't the greatest. Which brings me back to the new Xbox. I've gone days without internet before. When I don't have the internet, I'm gonna' be spending even more time gaming. Thankfully, the Xbox isn't my only option. Otherwise, I'd be fucked; as I'm sure many gamers that invest in this thing will be. The modern age is already a pain in the ass; Microsoft, in my opinion, seems intent on making it a bigger one.
Someone raised another issue early; what's gonna' happen when Microsoft decides to retire Xbox One? Are users going to be able to even play their games once the service ceases? It raises too many question marks and makes the experience more trouble than it's worth. Console gaming shouldn't be this complicated, expensive or restrictive.
However, on a more positive note, many DVD and Blu-ray players - not to mention the PS3 - save your place on several movie discs you view long after you've played countless games and other films....
The other day, I threw my AVGN: Volume 2 DVD in my PS3 after having watched Ghostbusters 1 and 2, the entire first volume of The Real Ghostbusters, End of Watch and Cabin in the Woods, and the player went right back to the very spot I had stopped AVGN lord knows how many weeks prior. You can enjoy that feature now! :)
-
I got PS4 pre-ordered, can't wait. Pre-ordered a while after the conference, i mean amazon doesn't charge you until it ships out the order, so there was no reason not to. and i got an email today from them saying I'm guaranteed a launch unit if everything goes as planned :)
so hopefully I'll have enough money saved up by the time PS4 comes out, if not, i'll have to cancel my order, not a big deal.
Really excited to play next gen games.
-
I can't believe that Bayonetta 2 will have an online co op mode. Wow that makes the whole thing sooooooo much more appealing on top of how amazing it already is.
-
How long do you think it'll take for the slim versions of the Xbone and PS4 come out?
-
How long do you think it'll take for the slim versions of the Xbone and PS4 come out?
Probably depends on what bugs they may have.. The 2nd version of the PS3 was released within 2-3 years after the original. Xbox Slim came around 2-3 years as well. So, going by that, the 2nd revision of the new consoles will likely come out around 2015.
-
Dead Rising 3 sounds like hot garbage. Capcom is just... what a joke. There goes the only reason I might have wanted an Xbone.
http://www.gamespot.com/features/dead-rising-3-reaches-for-the-call-of-duty-crowd-6409900/
-
Yeah, I think Microsoft should have went with someone else for a exclusive. After playing Dead Rising 2 I didn't care about the franchise anymore.
Also they got a exclusive from the 'Sony known partner' Insomniac Games, but frankly, after Fuse. I want nothing to do with their games. Though I like the artstyle in the game.
Ryse tho, regardless of the dumb title, reminded me of Viking: Battle for Asgard mixed with better 'unit battling'. Though it seems a bit linear in the trailer.
Has Microsoft unveiled the Xbox ONe launch line up? I'm not getting one, just wondering. Honestly everyone I know is now getting the PS4 (contrast to last generation which was mostly 360).
-
I agree, Dead Rising isn't that big a name, and now they've taken away what most of the fans (I think) loved about it, which was it's goofy and fun nature. My favourite DR game is DR2: Off the Record, because the whole game is Frank West suplexing zombies in a mankini, building lightsabers from household items and delivering one-liners that would make David Caruso cringe.
-
Well, I got to do a lot more "Non-Sega" stuff today as we've finished getting all our playthroughs and interviews done and stayed mostly in the West Hall checking out Nintendo, Playstation, and because Nux dragged me there, X-Box.
Nintendo:
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics has better gameplay and visuals than the older ones, but the framerate is suffering right now. We had footage of the entire demo, but Nux lost his camera.
Super Mario 3D World was a lot more fun than expected. I was originally pissed that it wasn't Mario Galaxy 3, but there's a lot of fun there.
Damn son! Mario Kart 8 was not only fun to play, it looked gorgeous!! The lighting engine used really gives it a CGI look. This is the most "Next Gen" Wii U title I've seen. Very impressive.
Sony:
The PS4 controller is a big improvement over the Dual Shock. The fatter handles feel better and thank god, the L2/R2 buttons are concave so your fingers don't slide off. The 360 controller still feels the most comfortable though. Also, a bit too heavy.
First PS4 game I got to try was an indy game called Octodad: Dadliest Catch. A funny and crazy physics game where you play as an octopus disguising himself as a human and marrying a single mother. It's a ragdoll physics game where since he''s an octopus his center of gravity is really off and just doing the most basic of functions is a chore. It's hilarious and fun.
I got to sit in a room and watch someone else play Killzone 4 on a large screen. Unfortunatly, they chose this boring forest level that didn't look next gen at all. Seriously, it looked like Killzone 3 only slightly sharper. Disappointing
Finally, we played Knack. The game is fun with very easy controls and the game has this "TV CGI cartoon" look to it that I like. However, the games visuals seem fuzzy. Like sub 720p and the framrate is 30 FPS or below.
While I plan to get a PS4 in the future, nothing here tells me I need one at launch.
X-Box:
The new controller feels odd and flimsy. Like it's a third party controller. Very cheap.
The only two games I played was a gold game (meh) while waiting to play the only XBone game I cared about, Crimson Dragon. I'm both sad and happy to say the game was a dissapointment. Sad, because I love Panzer Dragoon games and happy because I have ZERO reason to even think of buying a XBone.
Unlike previous PD games where you aim and steer with the same stick, this one has it one separate joysticks. You steer the dragon with the left, aim with the right. It makes it awkward to play. Not only that, the aiming is poor.
Yes, yes. I still have more writing to do. Expect a hands-on report of company of Heroes 2 soon along with an interview.

GET THAT THING DONE! No hating on Xbox till its done. Then you can hate all you want.
I can't wait till these systems are out and all their great looking games come out. This is a MMO.

Compare the launch games of 360 to their 3rd or 4th year in.

That's weird, most PS4 games so far suggest that native 1080p is the new standard for games. It'd be weird if a first party game like Knack would be below 720p.
-
Crimson Dragon a disappointment? Well, that's.....disappointing... :(
-
I've read good previews of Crimson Dragon, shame Shigs didn't like it but I'm not writing it off.
-
Yeah, nothing in these launch games impress me graphically, but first year titles are often like that. I'm sure next E3 will have PS4 games that will wow me.
The XBone controller probably felt very light because it wired and likely had no batteries inside.
-
^that's no excuse. The 360's wired controlled is one of the best controllers ever, this should at least be as good.
If there was one thing I was envying the Xbone for was it's controller.
