Sega has just announced a brand new 2D fighting game called Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. The game celebrates the 20th anniversary of light novel publisher Dengeki Bunko and features popular characters from their various series as well as few characters from Sega franchises.
The screenshots that have been released for the game so far show Shana from the light novel and anime series Shakugan no Shana fighting against Asuna from Sword Art Online. No Sega characters have been confirmed, though Valkyria Chronicles has been mentioned.

More pics at original link as well as some footage.
Looks very Anime-fighter-ish, not really my jam, but might be of interest to you guys.
-
Saw this, was going to post it but you beat me to it, drat.
I'm not into visual novels or any of the animes mentioned at all, but the fact that we might see some SEGA fighters has me interested.
Also looks like we can move away from the "SEGA announces new game... For iOS!" troll comments to "SEGA announces new game... For Japan exclusive!" troll comments. PROGRESS!
-
Well its most likely going to be Sega characters that had a light novel or manga made by Dengeki. So i'll assume the Sega Hard Girls will feature in this game as well.
-
Is this going to be an all female roster?
-
Could be but it should have a few girly men in it so i guess yeah all female.
-

Yeah. I was searching for the words "IOS/ Iphone" before even reading the name of the game.
Let's hope this game will bring us good expectations.
-
I assume a couple of Valkyria Chronicles, Shining, and PSO characters. Sakura Wars characters could be another possible if RED gets involved.

Doubt if any PSO characters will be involved. RED doesn't need to be involved for Sega to use any SAKURA TAISEN characters. They just sign off on it anyway. And they will more likely to feature in this game because Dengeki use to publish SAKURA TAISEN light novels. Its more than likely that the Sega characters that will appear in this will be those whose had light novels made by Dengeki. It seems everyone is mistaking this as a Sega free for all and comparing it to FIGHTERS MEGAMIX,Smash bros and friggin Marvel vs Capcom or games of that style. Half the Sega characters who will appear in this game no one will care about or know and this game isn't going to be released in the west either.
-
These are the types of games I would rather Sega not take the chance on releasing it to the west.
So long as there's no region protection, fighters are pretty import friendly and having it fail sales-wise in the west would just further enforce their position of not localizing their Japanese content.
All those RPG's though, that's what they've got to bring over.
-
^That's the thing though, it's so much easier to translate a fighting game that probably has about 12 lines of dialogue, compared to an RPG with about ten billion lines of dialogue. Even though it's more important to us to get Yakuza 5 translated, Sega doesn't want to sink that kind of money on the game so people can be like 'How do I steal cars in GTA Japan?'

One of the stages is based on Valkyria Chronicles.

OMG HYPE! :D
Too bad I am not good at fighting games. ;____;

Well this is as close to a Sega vs Capcom game that everyone is wanking for.LOL

So, quite a bit of information has been revealed:
http://shoryuken.com/2013/10/05/mikoto-misaka-and-kirino-kosaka-announced-as-playable-characters-in-dengeki-bunko-fighting-climax-four-assist-characters-revealed/
http://shoryuken.com/2013/10/06/dengeki-bunko-fighting-climaxs-playable-cast-increases-with-shizuo-heiwajima-and-kuroyukihime-first-trailer-released/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sllVigl8n1E
Basic Controls
The game uses an 8-way joystick and 4 buttons. The buttons are A (Light Attack), B (Medium Attack), C (Heavy Attack) and S (Support). Movement options are dash, backdash and double jump.
Battle System
Support - S Button calls in support characters. The effect differs by character.
dbfc-support-1dbfc-support-2
Impact Skill - A unique attack performed with A+B or ↓+A+B. The first hit has a guard point, so the move can be used as a counterattack. Many are also effective as part of combos and can be used like a special move.
dbfc-mechanics-1
Kirifuda (Trump Card) – Pressing B+C unleashes a powerful attack that consumes 1 lightning mark. Many of these attacks have invincibility during start-up or function as overheads, so they are very easy to connect and also have high damage. While they primarily are counterattacks, they can also be used as a finisher. Each side starts with 2 lightning marks at the beginning of the battle, regaining 1 mark at the start of a round. The maximum count is 2.
dbfc-mechanics-2
Blast – Pressing A+B+C consumes the Blast icon while activating various effects. When used while taking damage it acts as a combo breaker, but from a normal state it boosts the character’s ability. When used during a combo it launches the opponent straight upwards, allowing for a follow-up as they descend. The Blast icon regenerates after a fixed amount of time.
dbfc-mechanics-3
Extend Action – Performing a normal or special attack and holding the button will change the move. What techniques change varies by character.
Potential – A unique skill possessed by each character. They activate when certain conditions are fulfilled, e.g. “Damage is boosted when health is low”. Each character has a number of hidden conditions.
Climax Gauge – The super gauge. The meter fills when performing actions like attacking and guarding, but also automatically builds when doing nothing at all. Up to 5 bars can be stocked. Other than super attacks, the gauge is used for special attacks such as EX special moves.
EX Special Move – Performing a special move with the S button consumes 1 bar of Climax Gauge while unleashing a more powerful version of the move.
Climax Arts – Super moves, which consume 2 bars of the Climax Gauge when activated. Each character has 2 Climax Arts.
Reflection Guard – Pressing any button during a guard pushes back the opponent while consuming a small amount of the Climax Gauge. Use when pressured by the opponent to create space.
Quick Combination – A combo automatically performed by pressing the A button repeatedly. A → B → C → Impact Skill → (when meter is available) EX special move does a basic combo.
Master the Supports!
This game’s biggest feature is support. One support character is selected separate from the playable characters (any combination), and can be freely summoned during a fight. 1 button calls in support, who releases a unique move before exiting.
Supports recover after a fixed period of time and can be called again, but the recovery speed differs by character. Supports recover in 4-5 seconds at the longest, so can be summoned over and over, stress-free.
1 bar of Climax Gauge can be used to cancel an attack and call an assist. Using a flow like Light → Medium → Heavy → Assist → Special → Assist hits → Air combo, various combos can be created based on the player’s ideas.
A Simple Fighting Game Anyone Can Enjoy
Play impressions from Dengeki Online’s Kaneking.
The impression I got from playing is this is an extremely simple fighting game. Complicated systems have been excluded as best as possible. The game speed is also rather fast, never feeling sluggish at all.
The commands are tentative, but there were no so-called DP motion commands, and I was able to perform them all with ease. The game adopts a popular system of late that allows even someone who has never played a fighting game before to do a combo by pressing A repeatedly. You can say it’s a very approachable game.
On the character screen, the system voice speech is very abundant. You’ll hear speech by just staying on the select screen. There are a lot of things in the game that can only be found by playing, like the characters’ special victory quotes when winning with a big life lead.
Another impression I got is that all the characters are very trollish (laugh). The insults from the Dengeki Bunko heroines are great and quite hilarious. There really aren’t many fighting games with abusive lines like that. There’s already teasing during the exchange before the fight. It’s a crossover game, but it felt like the characters are battling with each other without holding back, and I thought that was really great.

Thanks for all the info Chaosmaster!
The article also mentions that the title will be receiving a console release, but platforms and a date are not specified.
This is a very good point, hoping that it's SEGA to publish it and it arrive in the West.
p.s. I can't wait to discover the characters of SEGA's side.
-
Seems this is the game Overworks are (Over) working on.
A shame really, I wanted a new IP but I guess it's good for those fighting fans?
Also, a character from "My Little Sister can't be this cute" is in it. <_<

Yeah this is very much going to be fanservice dressed in an anime fighter skin.
I really don't like these kinds of fighters tbh, also the animation is so poor! I wonder if it's just because it's early, or they are just doing it for as cheap as possible.
-
Its still very much a "French Bread" game...(Melty Blood etc.)
CS3 (former Overworks) did plenty of anime stuff since the Saturn days...dating sims, Bleach games and the Magic Knight Rayearth Saturn game.

The Sega shoutouts continue:
http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/795/795915/
Since Smash 4 got Windy Hill Zone, Green Hill migrated from one fighting game in Brawl(/Project M/whatever Brawl mod you are playing if any) to another in this very game, accompanying the announcement of Tomoka from everyone's favorite pedo basketball* anime Ro-Kyu-Bu as a playable character:
* For the uninitiated, this description is absolutely not an exaggeration. It's two seasons of twelve episodes of loli and loli and loli and more loli and basketball. And NSFWness at worst. And real life Chris Hansen summoning.
Your description of Ro-Kyu-Bu is tempting. It sounds so hilarious and WTF that it's hard to ignore.
-
They've been very quiet on what Sega characters, if many at all, will be in this, haven't they? Nice to see some Sega themed stages at least, all the anime characters in this goes way over my head.
-
Akira Yuki debuts and Pai Chan will be his supporting character. Here are the screenshots and after looking at them. SEGA should team with Capcom and make a crossover game that should have been done years ago.

Wow, to think SEGA is publishing two 2D fighters in arcades within two months.

What's the Shinobi stage from?
-
Meh, another girly 2d fighter, where everybody is too old, and too many thick thighs dominate the arena. I am really getting tired of this echi stuff. I mean that one maid game, anime premiered on cable, and suddenly everybody is like, oh we can make an all girl fighter too. Rumble Rose, made sense because it was wrestling.
I think many Japanese developers are realizing, that nobody is into the regular videogames anymore, and they are being desperate by releasing something that could turn into an sexploitation (what an idiot calls Hentai....... ) type thingy.
Skull Girls is another example, but that only works because the characters are original, and "Waku Waku, and Astro Superstars.
-
^If you don't like thick thighs you can get the fuck out right now.
But I kinda agree in that I don't have any interest in these kinds of fighters.
-
Their based on some questionable anime, but there is a huge fanbase. I always hear people in real life talk about Sword Art Online and Durarara (Which isn't a girly anime).

The PS2 Shinobi game. I believe where Hotsuma has to fight the final boss.
-
Even if there is fanservice in some of the shows represented in this game, I don't know if most of them are really "ecchi." Plus, several of these light novels came long before Senran Kagura, dude.

SAO is pretty kick A. One of the interesting anime I've watched recently though I miss the old style of the animation from the 80's and mid 90's.
Akira Yuki's gameplay video should be shown on the 16th of March. I hope he's playable with some nerfs.
-
The sad part is that most of everything animated from the 1970's to the 1990's was the apex of animation. Not because society was balanced, but because it was a youth culture, and you had more alive characters. Just look at the recent GITS, the animation ( including the comics ), compared to original "Black Magic M-66". It is like all of the life was sucked out of it around the time "New Dominion Tank ( DTP2 )" came around. The original Lupin Comics, are still running with the Lupin gang, going on adventures, and stuff. Most of everything in the west is trying to mimic that original spirit, but is not reaching that height.
^If you don't like thick thighs you can get the fuck out right now.
Well I don't, not in general, just with all the newer material, everything is thick thighs, or their is no logic behind it. An athletic woman who is small breasted and have thick thighs from burning fat and building muscles is one thing, even a model who is constantly toning her body. Then their are those body types, but other wise, it is kinds disgusting to me, especially in my video-games, where you see these ( in my opinions ) cows on screen. The only thing, that is thick enough for me is Sailor Jupiter, because at least, she has the bust and the brawn, to back it up.
Part of this problem is the aging, of game creator. As time goes by a person becomes blinded by what beauty is. It is like looking at a terrible fashion catalog, where all the models are ugly, but not uglier then the reader. To make it worst, this is a far fetched fictional universe, but they are using current trends in our world, as well, which is bad. Just luckily this is not a western company, or else we would have a another, Bayonetta disaster.
-
The PS2 Shinobi game. I believe where Hotsuma has to fight the final boss.
Indeed, I remember that stage well, beating the final boss was pretty memorable considering all the times I've heard (and experienced) the game's difficulty.

Two Akira Yuki Boss fight videos are up on the front page. *tired*
http://segabits.com/blog/2014/03/22/degenki-bunko-fighting-climax-boss-video-akira-in-action/
Pre-cutscene looks fluid and Akira's artwork shines through than the other cast members. I'm surprised that a Virtua Fighter X Street Fighter didn't happen yet.
Plus Dreamcast girl appears at 11:52
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WsxKmKYhlM
-
So I guess Dreamcast is a NPC? Though they probably going to reveal more about her that is just what it looks like from that video.
-

I am not a fan of fighters in general, but I guess there's an audience for both. I would have jumped on board if a Claymore was in (but of course, they're not under the branding of Bunko).
As for the animation...I have noted this lack of quality in quite a few games, starting with that awful dual personality Bride who has a dragon. I forgot the name (Toki/Towa?). That was awful, but it's creeping into other Anime styled games now.
Its still very much a "French Bread" game...(Melty Blood etc.)
CS3 (former Overworks) did plenty of anime stuff since the Saturn days...dating sims, Bleach games and the Magic Knight Rayearth Saturn game.
I have nothing against Anime inspired games personally! Valkyria Chronicles is my favourite SRPG after all.
However, I have noticed an over saturation of these Anime styled games, and it's one of the reasons (not the most important) why I don't play any of the "Tales of" games, it just screams "Teenaged characters want to beat the big bad boss with full of raging emotions and anime cliches".
Anyway, I still want to see what this game has to offer.
-
Two more characters to be added. Fingers crossed for more SEGA characters, that means you Sakura Shinguji and Ogami Ichiro. Don't mind if Bahn shows up too. http://shoryuken.com/2014/05/09/taiga-aisaka-and-miyuki-shiba-joining-dengeki-bunko-fighting-climaxs-playable-cast/
-
The Black Bullet anime seems to be doing well, maybe Rentaro might show up?
-
Hi, i will put this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIU4nGdK9SY&feature=youtu.be
Fighting climax will be released on November 13th for PS3-PSVITA if there is someome here who want to import it. I think it will be good to do this because we can show SEGA than this game can be localize, if Miku can be, sure this kind of games can too.
-
Doubt it...its all due to licensing issues because its a game using various licensed characters that the company or whoever owns them may have deals with other companies outside of japan. That is usually the issue wit hthese type of games reventing them of getting released outside of Japan/asia...
-
Even though Aksys Games are publishing instead of SEGA, another fighter from the same developers, Under Night in Birth, is getting released over in North America next year. Sheesh, what is it with SEGA and their lose connections to certain 2D fighters?
-
Probably because Sega has this partners deal where they support the title via distrubution. That's where Atlus was before Sega managed to buy them.
Many of the companies under partners are companies that are making this type of game..the melty blood series was supported by Sega via arcade and software..they just didn't exactly publish the game but the title used their hardware via arcade and distrubution links when it was on PS2.
But yes its another example of Sega going the oppsite way in these type of games. Instead of doing a full fledged sega 2d fighter featuring all their characters they go this route with another company..and then avoid to bring it out themselves in the west...and what's worse is they are making an anime that kinda ties in with this game because it features the Sega system gals who feature in this game in some form.
-
Hope this isn't a necro-bump but they have footage of Selvaria in the game now.

Unlocked Akira and Selveria. Akira has several great combo set ups and Selveria is so OP.
Going to have this as part of the tournaments I'm having for Fan Jam this week. Review will be coming up soon once I'm able to knock out some class work.

It's a good and solid fighting game. Not as hardcore as Blazblue, but not as easy as Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
For the detail, let's wait for Kori-Maru's review. ;-D
As for me, the best thing about this game is most of the menus are in english text, so non japanese language user could just play this right away.

Also I heard Akira is rubbish in this game. :(
Opening movie change, BGM ending change, Shizuo's dash motion, Kirino's voice, and the availability of Akira & Selvaria in other mode (before they only show up in versus mode, after we unlock them of course).
Yeah, Akira's only great while controlled by computer (as a boss).
But once we play him, he's kinda suck since all of his attacks are short range while all other chars have various range attacks (short range, mid-range and high range attack).
We must keep opponents close to us if we want to win with him.
What are the differences between this game and UNIEL? They're from the same developers, but I'm a bit curious to know if there are any major differences.
This is like an easy mode version of UNIEL, because every chars' moveset in DBFC are same (half quarter move + A, A+B, etc).
And combo is a waaaaaaaaay too easy since it's just A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A for every characters too.
So basically in DBFC you don't need to remember any combos/moveset, more focus on your chars and assists.
-
This is a fight worthed waching for.
A battle of bosses.
In the good player, Akira is a beast.
