Title: Crazy Taxi tops the charts....
Post by: ROJM on September 25, 2014, 11:36:13 am
http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/23/segas-crazy-taxi-city-rush-rolls-over-its-mobile-game-rivals-in-august-downloads/ (http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/23/segas-crazy-taxi-city-rush-rolls-over-its-mobile-game-rivals-in-august-downloads/)

CRAZY TAXI an ip that has struggled to reach its glory days when it first appeared on the arcades and wowed everyone on the DC before it hit its wilderness years with the Xbox and subsequent releases on other systems when sega became a third party...
Has become the number one downloaded game of the month of august. I guess its good to see one of Sega's new classic ips getting to the top of the charts in a very competitive market which is mobile game downloads.

I guess this also shows why Sega is keen to throw all their resources at this market. Too many successes on this platform with very heavy profit margins on little investment compared to the development costs that console games incur.
Anyway this is one good news considering what has happened with Bay 2 and a return to the top for one of Sega's big DC franchises....

And yes did i mention these are worldwide charts...worldwide charts? as in the whole world?...

original source...

When you consider how long this game has been out and compare the performance for a traditional title its really a no brainer. At least Sega is making crazy money on a worldwide basis...

Oh, man. Another hit from Hardlight Studios, congrats guys!  :D

Beating King, Line , Soft Bank , Flappy Birds guy and Gameloft at least for a month is really good! Keep the good work!

Wasn't it implied that Sega was interested in expanding Crazy Taxi again if this turns out to be successful? They seem to have found an audience still interested in this IP

If this leads to a Crazy Taxi 4 for consoles, I will buy it no doubt, but I would consider that miraculous if it comes to pass.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sega throws it out on the 3DS or Vita.

At this point i don't think they will made a console version of the game. It could return to arcades but mobile is their best bet because they can reach a bigger audience than arcades and consoles can combined.

Great, can't wait for Bayonetta: Mobile Ops.
You have to press the screen to make her shoot things, if you pay micro transactions you get Halos which can be spent to remove her clothing.

It could happen. They were talking about a spin off for handheld systems a while back.

Handheld I would be cool with, it's mobile skinner boxes that make me sad.

I played this game the week it was out, honestly its not the Crazy Taxi that we all want, but it was damn fun for a phone version. Not a huge fan of touch controls, so copying Temple Run style controls and adding their own flavor worked.

Well if they were clever they would continue with this title on mobile and expand to other formats like VITA and home console to get the franchise up and running again. But they won't i suspect and keep it just for mobile/handheld.

Sega should really be putting Hulk Hogan into all their upcoming titles.

Alien: Isolation should have DLC where you can replace the Xenomorph with Hulk Hogan, screaming 'What are you gonna do, when Hulkamania RUNS WILD ON YOU BROTHER!?' as he stalks you.

He should be a DLC General in Attila: Total War that can bodyslam elephants.

There should be a DLC costume for Bayonetta 2 (even though this isn't a Sega game, I can't think of any others) where she wears Hulk clothing and rips the shirt before a boss fight.

There isn't one. Sega has used Hulk hogan before in WRESTLE WAR ,PRO WRESTLING although both weren't licensed..and that was before they started to use him in video games...so Sega kinda recognised that he was a good template to use...then of course the Sega WWF ROYAL RUMBLE arcade game...with THQbut can't remeber if he was in that game or not..so its kinda like a homecoming in a way for the hulkster to officially appear in a sega game...

Oh man that boxart is amazing.
Was that game licensed or are they just being dangerous with likenesses in the background?

These were the days when japanese game companies used copyrighted characters from the united states but never licensed any of them. Remember Spider man in SHINOBI? Or the Batman fiasco in REVENGE OF SHINOBI? But i think there was a version of WRESTLE WAR in the arcades that did licensed it officially.
What i like about the trailer and the box art is Hogan is doing the exact same pose att he beginning of the trailer(almost) to the one in the box art of WRESTLEWAR..LOL...

On another note wouldn't it be better if they had someone more relavent to CRAZY TAXI as a DLC like Offspring..or the Chilli Peppers...or even one of those pop music rappers..

Ohh, Shining Force would actually work on mobile too since it's turn based.

I've tried playing any type of platformer or action game on my Galaxy 1, it's just... atrociously bad...

I imagine most people buy phone games to play on the bus/train when you don't have access to your MD or don't want to buy a dedicated gaming handheld.

I should point out most of the games on my phone are just emulated ROMs. But so are these official releases so...

Of course but me personally why buy a game where i can enjoy the proper versions any time i want at home. When i go out....i don't go out to play a game unless i go to the arcade and that's really if i'm in Asia.

You don't go out to play the games, but if you have to catch a bus or you're sitting on the train for 30 minutes to an hour, then you might play a game to kill the time.

Although even then, I read a book instead and game at home. The only time I've bought phone games was through a humble bundle where I got about five games (including Metal Slug) for $5 or something.

SEGA's iPhone emulation on those old ports isnt the best, however it works well for slower paced games like Shining Force. The old Sonic 1&2 was crap on the emulator, but if you can get Shining Force iOS for cheap, it's a good diversion.

I drive. On business trips that usually involve plane travel i read a book or the times or watch a movie..or sleep. I do download mobile games and handheld consoles but i really don't use them on the go. Age i presume..but i just dont bother getting games i already have on console..no point.

Apparently this game hasn't gotten good review scores due to its IAP scheme?

RetroGamer gave it something like 49% or something. :S

I'm sure Sega iwill be losing sleep from that review of that crap mag. CRAZY TAXI 's made its money tenfold with that game. I don't even think reviews are effective when we talk about mobile social games...

Agreed, nobody gives a fuck about reviews when it comes to mobile phone games.

Although I do like Retro Gamer, I haven't read it in ages. I found a lot of articles very interesting, and actually full of content, unlike most gaming mags these days.

TA reads it so he can pass himself off as an experinced gamer from the nineties..too bad he's been caught out on stuff that a novice sega fan would know..time and time again. Me personally i think its crap..not telling me anything i don't already know or care about. I don't need to relive the past when i was actually there playing the games...

I used to love reading it, had so many interesting pieces about classic games, some from before I was born or when I was too young.

I also liked that it was a magazine that seemed to have real content different from all the other magazines that sometimes just felt like advertising or PR pieces.

Well i guess that's why you should read it then. I don't buy magazines anymore because of the point you just made.Today's reviwers are just not of the stock of the game reviwers from the old days of the original EGM, SEGA visions, Mean Machines and Die Hard Gamefan and Megafan...
At least the reviews at Segabits can be trusted because its coming from people who are enthausiastic about games and are putting  their own time into the subject they love and not working in a corporate structure...
