Crazy Taxi tops the charts....
« on: September 25, 2014, 11:36:13 am »
http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/23/segas-crazy-taxi-city-rush-rolls-over-its-mobile-game-rivals-in-august-downloads/

CRAZY TAXI an ip that has struggled to reach its glory days when it first appeared on the arcades and wowed everyone on the DC before it hit its wilderness years with the Xbox and subsequent releases on other systems when sega became a third party...
Has become the number one downloaded game of the month of august. I guess its good to see one of Sega's new classic ips getting to the top of the charts in a very competitive market which is mobile game downloads.

I guess this also shows why Sega is keen to throw all their resources at this market. Too many successes on this platform with very heavy profit margins on little investment compared to the development costs that console games incur.
Anyway this is one good news considering what has happened with Bay 2 and a return to the top for one of Sega's big DC franchises....

And yes did i mention these are worldwide charts...worldwide charts? as in the whole world?...

When you consider how long this game has been out and compare the performance for a traditional title its really a no brainer. At least Sega is making crazy money on a worldwide basis...

Beating King, Line , Soft Bank , Flappy Birds guy and Gameloft at least for a month is really good! Keep the good work!

Wasn't it implied that Sega was interested in expanding Crazy Taxi again if this turns out to be successful? They seem to have found an audience still interested in this IP

If this leads to a Crazy Taxi 4 for consoles, I will buy it no doubt, but I would consider that miraculous if it comes to pass.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sega throws it out on the 3DS or Vita.

At this point i don't think they will made a console version of the game. It could return to arcades but mobile is their best bet because they can reach a bigger audience than arcades and consoles can combined.

Great, can't wait for Bayonetta: Mobile Ops.
You have to press the screen to make her shoot things, if you pay micro transactions you get Halos which can be spent to remove her clothing.

It could happen. They were talking about a spin off for handheld systems a while back.

Handheld I would be cool with, it's mobile skinner boxes that make me sad.

I'll believe you, but I don't know if I'll want to.

I played this game the week it was out, honestly its not the Crazy Taxi that we all want, but it was damn fun for a phone version. Not a huge fan of touch controls, so copying Temple Run style controls and adding their own flavor worked.

Well if they were clever they would continue with this title on mobile and expand to other formats like VITA and home console to get the franchise up and running again. But they won't i suspect and keep it just for mobile/handheld.
