Does anyone care that SEGA is making yet another sequel to Sonic Boom? If they were even halfway focused on games that make money, they could probably avoid the risk of being bought by EA games.
-
Nope. Boom on the Wii u has set the tone for that series as a game sadly.
-
Troll thread if I ever saw one
-
No, no one seems to care about the new Sonic Boom game.
The guys at SEGA doesn't seem to care either.
-
I beg to differ, they delayed the game so as not to rush it and to take time to improve it. With Shattered Crystal and Rise of Lyric they rushed it and released a subpar game and an awful game. Now they seem to give a shit.

I meant in the sense they're being abnormally quiet about the game. It's almost been a year since the announcement and we're still clinging onto the same footage and screenshots, with only vague hints like the more recent "half-pipe special stage" mention in the description from a shopping website.
Unless they're heavily revamping the game and the information we know about anyway is worthless (which could be a bad thing in itself, see Sonic Xtreme), it's like they do not want us to know about the game's existence or doesn't care.
-
Sanzaru's a good developer, they did a great job with Sly 4. I thought Shattered Crystal was terrible but it was pretty clear that it was also rushed together and made with not enough time spent at the design table, so I could see Sanzaru doing better with this second shot.
Also, no new trailers and gameplay demos could mean that Sanzaru is spending more time actually developing the game. Stuff like that can eat into development time as well.
-
Hasn't Sanzura stopped working on the game? I'm sure I read somewhere that after they had "finished" SEGA took it in-house to work on it more.
-
No I think they are still working on it. I don't particularly care about it... But I understand that it's a game to go with a cartoon and as I actually quite liked the cartoon I can let it slide... If SEGA didn't currently have an excellent line up of games I would be far more upset. But I can overlook one bad Sonic game in an otherwise brilliant line up...
-
Parents care.
At least as for me, I'll buy it for my 4 year old son since he loved the TV show (well, me too) and he still prefer Shattered Crystal than 3DS version of Lost World (the game is too hard for him).

This is like going for some cheap soda knock-off that is just kind of tasteless after drinking spoiled milk.
-
Hope for the best prepare for the worst. Hope its good anyways. First Sonic boom I did not care for much.

I think SEGA sometimes suffers the same problem that Nintendo does. They mostly make children's games thinking that the majority of people who play video games are children. That's a problem because adults would much rather play something that isn't cheesy. I miss the days when Sonic games were actually good and when SEGA had many more franchises to offer. At least SEGA can't make the same mistakes they did with the one about the werewolf.

Weird comment. The majority of SEGA games are not for children... Their current line up is very teen/adult.

Yeah, right now the only games Sega puts out that are marketed towards children are Sonic and mobile games. The rest is RTS, managing sims, or Japanese games that are kind of a niche in the west.
That and calling Nintendo games only for children is a very kid thing to do. :V
-
Ok. I will agree with you only if you can name a decent WiiU game that is rated M or 18+.
-
A decent Wii U game that is rated M?
Bayonetta 2, funded to some degree by Nintendo. Ironically, this is also a SEGA property that is certainly not for children.
-
Ok. I will agree with you only if you can name a decent WiiU game that is rated M or 18+.
So Nintendo can only make games that aren't for children if they're rated M or are 18+? Cause a game having a rating lower than that doesn't make it only for children. Nothing wrong with enjoying Mario, Zelda, Splatoon or even Kirby as an adult.
But like MykonosFan said, Bayonetta 2. :V
-
No one said that liking light hearted games is bad, just that they are aimed at kids. Are you going to argue that Mario isn't aimed at kids? You just said Sonic was aimed at kids not three posts ago. Well we can name a few one off titles that aren't specifically aimed for kids that Nintendo publishes, there is no arguing that Nintendo is a 'family friendly' company.
That isn't a bad thing.
-
True to a certain extent, I'd say they're more aimed at families than just children. Though even then, a game doesn't need to be rated M or 18+ to be aimed at adults. Games can be mature for reasons other than the gore or swearing that could get a game a rating like that. Like No Man's Sky is rated 7+ but I wouldn't call it a kids game.
Not that Wii U has any games aimed at adults without an M rating outside of maybe Monster Hunter, but still an age rating shouldn't be the defining factor for if a game is mature or not. Though I also don't see a problem with making games aimed at children when there is a lack of good games suitable for kids that aren't made by Nintendo these days anyway, not counting F2P mobile games.
-
I like the Sonic Boom series and I'm an adult. Spock, you are right about Sonic Unleashed. I'm sorry that you experienced that abomination. Have you ever played Sonic Generations? Have you ever played the Olympic based Sonic and Mario games? Those can be enjoyed by adults even though they are rated E. Not sure about Bayonetta. I've never played that one. There are plenty of M games for the WiiU. There are also plenty made by Sega. Just look it up for crying out loud!
-
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water as one quick example. I know generalizations are a necessity for console war bullshit and Nintendo is in fact a family friendly company, but saying that Nintendo games are only for kids is just petty.

If by "some degree", you mean "fully", you're absolutely right. Sega did jack shit when it came to Bayonetta 2 except canning the project at first.
-
Nintendo themselves are a family orientated company which is perfectly fine. The problem however, is they don't have the support of third parties to fill the other gamers interests such as more mature titles.

Damn. That 3D Crystal Stand is so beautiful.
-
That is pretty sweet.
-
I want it.

Reviving this topic. :P
Game came out to minimal fanfare, but positive reviews. I've played an hour so far, for the SEGAbits review, and am liking it thus far. Would have had a review code earlier, but for some reason we were left off of SEGA's Sonic PR list. I asked them to add us again and I got a code, but that was last night which was a bit late for a review to go up this morning.
-
I did not expect it to be a hot selling game, given the fact that all of its predecessors were garbage.
-
I agree.
-
Captain Kirk? Spock? I see what's going on here.
Anyway, I don't expect this game to sell well either given the past Boom games, though I wouldn't be surprised if avoids bombing given kids love the cartoon and licensed platformers can be popular on 3DS.
-
I'm not expecting it to sell well due to the stigma of Sonic Boom video games and SEGA themselves not pushing it.
At least if Sonic Boom does get phased out it will leave off on a positive note.

Damn. That 3D Crystal Stand is so beautiful.
Anyone has this beautiful 3D Crystal Stand?
They've been sold out when I try to pre-order it from Play-Asia weeks ago so I'm stuck with the North American version (with the DVD bonus that I've only watched once).
-
I know I had my doubts about this game, but just out of curiosity, is it better than the previous installments?
-
Oh totally. Fire & Ice is a huge improvement over Shattered Crystal and Rose of Lyric was just garbage.
-
I see a couple episodes on demand I can watch. Is there a story arc or will I be okay just jumping in with repeats?
If I like the cartoon I'll try Fire and Ice.
-
From what I've seen, you can jump into the series at any time. I'd buy this, but I don't have a 3DS.
-
Sonic Boom : Fire & Ice has already got a heavy discount on Play-Asia for this week.
I guess the sale wasn't good (in Asia, at least). :-\

Im totally okay with this... SEGA need to learn not to drag Sonic through the dirt anymore and there is no better wake up call than poor sales.
