I hate fiction in which characters die, come back, die and come back over and over again.
It is really hard to take the Mortal Kombat stories seriously when each level pretty much has to end in an incredibly gorey death.
Most developers just use it as an afterthought. In the case of stuff like Tekken, I like that they try because some of the endings for those can be very funny.
True, but I've always found the story of the Soul Calibur series to be interesting. Particularly Siegfried's fall from grace, his time as Nightmare and his current quest for redemption.
Soul Calibur has gotten pretty weird too, well at least we could not have expected much when they tried to explain how lightsabers do not instantly destroy wooden weapons.
But I can agree, Soul Calibur has had some neat twists and ideas, but I will always stand by Eternal Champions as the best fighting game story of all time. Some of the stories are brilliant, especially for their time when there was a whole genre that could be described as "Rebel fighting insane doctor".
