Renegade Ops! - Because 'Ops' is original!

Avalanche Studios, the studio behind the Just Cause series, is working on a SEGA-published downloadable vehicular top-down twin-stick shooter using the Just Cause 2 engine. In the immortal words of Senior Producer Andreas "Snygg" Thorsén: "The IP is all about driving or flying around blowing stuff up while playing with your friends and that to us, is a dream-project." Did you expect anything else?

The game will have local two player co-op and up to four-player online co-op, and you will shoot a lot of stuff. In vehicles. Thorsén spoke to Eurogamer about the project, mentioning how they were looking at Shadow Complex and wanted to do something similar -- old-school mechanics using modern graphics.

Another interesting bit from the Eurogamer story is that "Renegade Ops takes its cues in this regard from Konami's 1983 cult classic Jackal, and 1993 hits Cannon Fodder and Jungle Strike." HNNNGGG!

Renegade Ops will hit sometime in 2011 on PC, XBLA and PSN. No details have been released about a price, or whether Bolo Santosi is a playable character. Make it happen, Avalanche.

Whilst I didn't care much for the gameplay of Just Cause 2 the engine was really, really impressive... Also if there is one EA game I've ever had fun with it would be Desert Strike on the Mega Drive/Genesis as a kid.

Hears hoping it is good... Discuss!

Like I said on the main page, can't wait for this one! Just Cause 2 is my go-to open world game. I may never complete it, but its awesome to simply explore and complete objectives when they appear.

I played the Demo of JC2 and didnt have much fun.. the enemies just kept coming and coming no matter how many i killed and they weren't very fun to kill.

The world itself was fun though.

Unleash your full arsenal of weapons and destroy anything that stands in your path as you battle to protect the free world in any way possible. Madman Inferno, the commander of a sinister terrorist organisation, has detonated a devastating bomb to demonstrate the power of his new deadly weapon. Furious at the world’s leaders decision not to fight against Inferno, General Bryant has recruited a crack team of military specialists, known as the Renegade Ops, from around the globe to wage war against Inferno’s promise of world domination.

Go, Joe!

You're doing it wrong. People like Just Cause 2 because of the silly stuff you can do with it. For example, attach enemy to gas canister, shoot gas canister, magic happens.

Yeah, the full game is where its at. I tried the demo and had fun, but the space was too restrictive. All you could do was travel about a bit, and fight enemies in the same restricted area.

Meanwhile, in the main game I went on a helicopter spree from island to island, then crashed the copter into a high ranking enemy officer, parachuted to the ground and had a grenade party.

The vehicles didn’t feel satisfying to drive and the enemies didn't feel satisfying to kill... Something about the handling and physics of the land vehicles felt floaty and boring and killing enemies didn’t feel like I was having any impact on the world, I hate respawning enemies with fiery passion.

I did say I enjoyed the engine though, which includes all of the fun little things you can do...

Am I the only one disappointed that the game is Renegade Ops and not Renegade Cops?

I wish it didnt have Ops in the title... Thats for sure.

For some reason anything with Ops in the title is the kind of title I would usually completely ignore when I saw on the shelf.
