The game is much slower paced than the sequals yeah. Level design is much more platforming orientated. Though every flaw you make in the game(getting hit, falling into a botomless pit) is your own fault compared to some instances in the sequals and especially compared to recent games.

Sonic 1 gets least credit from the 3 and some even call it dated. I don't understand that :| . If there is 1 complaint i understand it's that the difficulty rising isn't consistent. Labyrinth zone's boss is still for me the hardest boss in the game lol. We became used to pass levels quick with todays games but not giving up and finally be able to pass gives a great sense of accomplishment and what's so great about it imo.

Scrap brain is one of my favourite stages.  :oops:

Yeah I agree, Sonic 1 is highly underrated, it is a phenomenal game. I absolutely love it and the only complaint I can really understand is the increased difficulty. Also, this is kind of relevant, Eurogamer did a small Sonic feature http://http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-01-retrospective-sonic-the-hedgehog-article

His piece about Knuckles at the end is bullshit though, and Mario never aped the multiple paths through a level as he barely ever had them, ever. His levels always traveled in a simplistic straight line.

I wish I could submit my story here since I've already submitted it to the contest, but I forgot to copy/paste it here. It's also one long ### story.

@kori

I'm sure I could have your story reformatted into an article, just as I did with CrazyTails and my own story.  8)
