Should I sell my Vita?
« on: January 01, 2015, 12:05:43 am »
Been thinking about it lately. I never use the thing, it's been in my drawer for months. I've just been pissed off at how Sony has pretty much stopped supporting it in terms of 1st party games. It does have pretty good jrpgs and niche games though and I love having the ability of playing some of my favorite PSOne games on it like RE2, FFIX, and Legend of Mana.

I also plan on buying a PS4 later too and it may come in handy then with remote play n such.

I just bought a vita tv and sold my vita. I found that I never took the damn thing out of the house and my local eb was selling the vita tv for $60. It just made sense to sell the vita. Honestly,it's not an incredibly supported system.

Depends, have you played Danganronpa 1 & 2 yet? Cause at the very least you should play those two games if you own a Vita.

Vita TV/PSTV is priced well. Of course you're losing out on the completely portable experience and some games don't work on it, IIRC.

Most of the time I'm using a Vita I have for PS Classics on the go. If there are older games you already have access to/not at least five games you have remote interest in for the Vita, I would be doubtful too.

I got a vita with ys celceta. Ff X hd collection and monkey ball

I only played it a couple of times and havent touched it aloteither. I love the OS and the user experience. But i cant get myself to wanna continue the games on it.

I think the vita is great but it has a major flaw imho, which is the ergonomic. The thing is a pain to use when lying down. Which is my usual handheld playing state. It hurts holding the vita after only 10 minutes. Theres literally no decent way for my hands to hold the damn thing. I have the vita 1000. I heard vita 2000 fixes this. Kind of sucks because the choice between a better screen or better ergonomics is one i would have rather not make. Plus i dont wanna sell and rebuy a vita. Its one of those small things that can ruin everything.

Also sony and its decision to stop making games for it and setting it out to die rubs me the wrong way. I still wouldnt sell the vita if only because I love the games i bought for it. Ys is great, ff X is an excellent game for a handheld and monkey ball is imo pretty fun

It's ok. I wouldn't go as far as good.

Not every Vita/PSP game is compatible. Pretty much all games that rely on touch controls won't work. This knocks out some of the Vita's iconic games like Gravity Rush, which would have been a blast to play on TV.

Even stuff that doesn't rely on touch screen functionality doesn't work like the Netflix app. It's available to download from the PSN shop, and the hardware is supposedly exactly the same as the vita, but the app straight up doesn't work.

The ones that do work, work well though. I'm currently playing Persona 4 Golden and Velocity 2 atm and they play perfectly with my spare PS3 controller. VitaTV can only output at most 720p though, so be weary of that. I was expecting that going in, so I wasn't shocked when I saw the games rendered on my TV.

Honestly, I can only recommended it to a very specific niche user. A user who, either already has a collection VitaTV compatible vita/psp  games that they never play on the handheld, or a PS4 owner looking to stream to another TV in their home and who is interested in some Vita titles as well.

I personally, only bought it because I fit one of those conditions and there was a boxing day sale, selling the system for $60. I have a hard time recommending it at full price.

I've heard a lot about em, what's the deal with those games?

I'm thinking of getting FFX before selling it, not sure.

The first game is about kids who just go to a college for "Ultimate" student, like the "Ultimate Writing Prodigy", the "Ultimate Swimming Pro" etc. All of these characters are kinda crazy and over the top in some way. When they first go to the college, they get kidnapped and are locked inside a college in which they have to either choose to live, or one of them has to kill one of the other students and not get caught after which he or she would be set free. Most of the game is either about finding out more about the college and having to do Phoenix Wright-like trials. It is a lot like a visual novel, they're more worth playing for the dialogue and story than the gameplay.

If you're going to play the games, you definitely need to play them in order. I also wouldn't look up too much stuff about it, as you can get easily spoil the game's plot twists that way.

DanganRonpa is an awesome game. Try the Project Diva demo before you sell it, too. you might not think you like the game based on how it looks, but you could surprise yourself. Game is pretty fun and challenging.

I might have to give it a try. Not sure about a visual novel styled game though. If it's cheap enough by now, then I'll give it a try.

I should probably get tearaway too. This thing is putting up a pretty goo d argument for not being sold. Not sure who would still wanna buy one too..

So, I ended up holding on to this turd. Picked up FFX HD, haven't played much of it at all, but it's pretty nice to be able to play it on a handheld. The character models look strange, tidus looks a bit Asian now, haha.
