Sega Genesis game from the 90s

Guys, I am in a pickle here so please help me out. Sometimes in the nineties when I was just a kid, I remember my dad playing an awesome platformer on our Genesis. If I recall correctly he was playing as a samurai or a ninja and moving constantly right (from the left side of the screen. He was fighting other ninjas (?) but also some monster. I think there was something looking like a Godzilla but my memory is fuzzy. I have no idea what the name of the game was and I would LOVE to dig it out. Please help!

Sounds like it's more than likely one of two games. It could be "Revenge of Shinobi", released in late 1989. There were revisions that changed the appearance of certain bosses due to copyright issues, so if that was the game you remember the boss could've looked like either of these two depending on the version:

If neither of those look quite right, it could be the sequel, "Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master" from 1993.
