I don't think Sega Europe will ever be as big as Ubisoft, but Sega as a whole will always be
I'm on about the whole of SEGA west, Ubisoft Montreal alone as close to 2000 staff, that's not for off SEGA total WW staff count (what is 3,300 ?)
I think Sega Europe WILL end up with a couple of Strong console teams though, Creative Assemblys new console team in England and the Aussie team are working on the Olympics game if you remember.
It's not a new console Team. CA have always had a consumer line, its just been given a much bigger head count and a massive budget
Sports Interactive are now putting their FM games on other platforms like PSP.
Its been on the PSP for years and on consoles like the 360. You missing the point slightly , its a limited genre and there EA add ever more management options in FIFA is not going to help for sales. Its a shame there's no more SEGA World Wide Soccer, where the Japan Team could have used all of Sports Inter data for the game, and make one hell of a Football game
SoE will probably always work with Sumo Digital, I'd have liked for them to buy the team but it's to late now. But Sumo are currently doing an iOS and Arcade version of Sega All-Star Racing.
Then there is those Zoe Mode people doing Crush
and HeadStrong are very likely doing OverKill 2.
It isnt as if SoE are really lacking in projects
And its not like SOA are were lacking projects, but it's all outsourced. SEGA West just need to start to Up its In-House studios and manpower to take on the likes of Uni ECT. One got to give credit to the likes of Codemasters they have built up a great In-House studio structure and In-House Tech , Games like Dirt III, Operation Flashpoint III look pretty impressive.
Don't get me wrong I really like SOE at the mo, but all of SEGA needs to it's game if it's to really take on the likes of Ubi and be ready for the next gen, where the Teams sizes are going to get that much bigger again.
SEGA needs to become more of a force on the main consoles worldwide and start to try and get some more IP that sells well (easier said than done I know )
