What are you playing, stupid?
« on: February 07, 2010, 01:57:06 pm »
This forum post needs to exist!

Currently I'm working through Assassin's creed 2 and am playing outrun online on ps3 and Fable 2 on 360.

Shamefully I have not been playing much video games, but I do have Batman, Afro Samurai (yes), Critter Crunch, and Braid to get to. So I might be playing those for awhile.

I'm currently playing Bayonetta and Modern Warfare 2 online.

Actually enjoying both of them a lot, Bayonetta is the best action game, maybe... ever? probably ever. Love it.

Currently, Nintendo was being a butt about repairing my Wii. They deleted all my saves so I have to replay them all.

Or... get a SD card and download the saves...

Yakuza 2, and Mass Effect at the moment. Also Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

Yakuza 2 is really good so far, although it does sometimes make me a bit impatient to play with the amount of cutscenes. Not that it has far too many, but just the fighting is so much fun I want to jump back in. So far the story is being set up quite well though.

Mass Effect, I'm playing this through again to remember the events clearly for Part 2, and also to make sure I can use my character to carry over.
Still enjoying it as much as I did when I first played it, but now I'm getting a huge urge to play Knights of the Old Republic again as well.

Well the last game I've been playin' was good ol' Lost Odyssey.

I picked up the game again, after a full month of not playing it, partially because I was too busy with Bayonetta and I also got Magna Carta 2 on the pipeline after I got it for dirt cheap at my local Worten store.

Anyway, I was stuck in (spoiler alert)
Quote
The Arthosaurus mini-game.
You know that mini-game on the 4th and final game disc in which you have to stop 4 arthosauruses from reaching Numara is any of them even comes close to it, it's instant Game Over.

I had tried 3 times and failed, two times because the very first arthousarus decided to do Heat Breath twice in a row, thus taking out my characters in one swift blow. The third time I tried getting all 3 of them and failed.

So I used the following tactic, I defeated two arthousaurus as quickly as possible and I lunged at the remaining two. I put one of them to sleep then proceded to get the other one and I did. It worked like a charm.

And here I was expecting another good hours of fun, until I get to yet another boss battle, this one being the hardest so far.

You see, after you return to Numara, General Kukunas goes power hungry and decides to fight Ming head-on.

The boss battle ensues, you fight 3 tanks, two support tanks and one cannon tank.

The boss fight is so hard that depending on what you do, the battle may be over for you in just two rounds, due to a cheap Full Canon Hit Attack that takes out anyone in my part and that is just cheap.

Lost Odyssey really likes to sucker punch the player when it can. You only have fun in this game when it allows you to.

I sat down yesterday with the intent of putting some time into No More Heroes. I got it when it came out a while back, but didn't get too far.
The whole making money thing between jobs didn't really click. Anyway, I ended up playing it for about 8 hours straight and beat it.
Awesome game. Really can't wait to play the second one.

I also started Klonoa (the Wii remake) yesterday.  Finished that one this afternoon.  Really fun platformer. I'll probably go back and get all the villagers that I missed the first time through.

Aside from those two, there's the usual bouts of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with my girlfriend. We're so close to beating Murdertown.

Since I've actually been making progress on my backlog lately, I'm thinking that finally finishing Final Fantasy V is next.

Bayonetta demo: I will stop hating it as much now.

Empire: still never beat the story mode or a normal campaign yet, despite 180 hours of gameplay, lolol.

Otherwise I just tired out some new games I have gotten, but I do not count that as 'playing it', as I intend to finish them later.

In anticipation of Sonic and Sega Racing, I've been trying to beef up my acomplishments in SEGA SuperStars Tennis. It's not that bad of a game but it's nowhere close to Virtua Tennis. I sure do love the minigames in SEGA Superstars Tennis though!

I've also been forcing myself to beat Ninja Gaiden II after nearly 2 years of having it sit in my backlog. Great game, not as hard as I remembered it to be though. I'll probably take back those words once I try harder settings.

I really wanted to get 1000gs for SST but I had played it so much on the wii (one of the best wii games imo) I was burned out on the game, I did get quite a few online matches in and won almost all of them.

This reminds me that SST is a very easy game, I hope SASAR is more challenging.

Same here for the 1000/1000gs but my problem roots more from not finding anybody to play with online.

Max, for Lost Odyssey that is one of the hardest bosses in the game, do not worry, it is the only part you need to power level. There is an area with Ming's special weapon or something like that (it has been awhile, my memory of it is fading) there are a lot of easy enemies there you can kill for a lot of experience points. There is also a move Sed has that lets you use two items at a time, so you can get your immortals to learn this as well and then stock up on the revive item.

I have been playing a lot of games lately actually, highly unusual for me! I was just getting angsty to play some newer games I cannot afford yet, so I figured I would replay a ton of my games I have had for years.

Skies of Arcadia Legends (GameCube) - This is actually my third time playing through Skies of Arcadia! I have not played through it in over 4 years, so I figured it was about time I give it another go. Amazing game, one of my favorites ever easily, but... I really really really hate the cheap one hit kill magic. It is bullshit!

Panzer Dragoon Orta (Xbox) - Brilliant game. You can really tell just by how everything is presented that this really is one of if not SEGA's most cherished franchise, and with this I am shocked nothing of it is in S&SASR...

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) - Basically my least favorite 3D Zelda game by a lot, but it is still really nice. The music quality is horrendous, the graphics are muddy and weird, the camera is bullshit and Wolf Link is an absolute joke. It sounds like I hate the game a lot, but I just compare it with Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time a lot is all, I think this is a very good game actually.

Shining Force (SEGA Genesis) - One of my favorite games growing up. I love the world and music a lot especially. Max is the man, totally needs to be in a SEGA crossover game in the future.

Ninja Gaiden II (Xbox 360) - I am trying to get a few more achievements I missed out on when I first got it. Great game, but damn unpolished in a few bits. Because of this you can really tell Itagaki wanted out of Tecmo by the time the game was half done, it is a shame the team had to pretty much ruin the point and basic concept of the series after he left though.

Plants vs Zombies (PC) - It is my favorite game from 2009, so you can tell I love it a lot! However! Just the other day my HDD fried, so I lost my 30+ hours save file. Joy.

I really cannot wait to get Bayonetta and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie next. I have not been able to afford a new game for awhile, so it is like woah man, WOAH!

Is it about 3 weeks away for SASAR?

that's pretty soon, getting HYPED!

I liked twilight princess but I agree it is probably the worst 3d Zelda, with Windwaker being my favourite.

I know what you mean, I also have trouble getting AAA on all mini games, some are impossible. Take Chu Chu Rocket mini-games for example.

Those Chu Chu Rocket ones were the only ones I couldn't finish either.

I finally beat the first No More Heroes the other day, and also played through the Klonoa remake on Wii. Both very solid games.

Finally finishing Final Fantasy V after 2 years of putting it off is next on the gaming agenda.
