You know... It's a great time to be a Sega fan!
« on: April 28, 2011, 10:02:31 pm »
Today I've really been feeling the love. In fact this is probably one of the best times EVER to be a Sega fan if you think about how readily available so many of Segas classics are for you to buy in so many places like Steam, XBLA, PSN, Wiiware, Gamersgate, iPhones, iPads... Etc etc etc.
But that isnt why I'm making this topic...

For the first time in MANY years there are so many Sega games coming out that I'm looking forward to, that I simply won't be able to afford them all...

Let me enlighten you!

Shogun 2 - Whilst I know some of you don't play these games it is widely agreed it's the best Total War since Rome and that’s a big deal trust me!

Yakuza 4
- just came out and it's imo the best in the series!

PSO2 - Who really thought we'd be getting Phantasy Star Online 2?
This is my number 1 game of the year. I've no doubt about it.

Binary Domain - JUST THIS MORNING, I didn't give a toss about this game. Bam, 1 trailer changed everything. I'm totally hyped for it! It looks like Vanquish with a AV/Nagoshi storyline. Yes plz.

Sega Rally Online Arcade
- Or what ever they are calling it. I really liked Sega Rally... It follows in the footsteps of OutRun Online Arcade, when has Daytona Online Arcade ever looked more likely? Never!

Sonic Generations
- I personally thought they had nailed it with Sonic Colours... I even enjoyed Sonic 4 to an extent and didn't think they'd ever get close to topping it. Not because it was the top of it's game by a long shot but I didn’t think Sonic Team had it in them... Generations looks better so far! (Fingers crossed.)

Shenmue Gai
- Yes it's a social networking game. I know... It isn’t Shenmue 3. But at the end of the day, had I asked you guys the day before it was announced how likely it would be to ever see a Shenmue game again, the more reasonable of you would have said. Very unlikely. I'll take what I can get, it's a good sign.

Virtua Tennis 4 - Created by the original team again! Looks like it'll be a winner imo!

Valkyria Chronicles 3 - Yeah... It hasn't been announced for us in the West yet but I'll bet my left nut it will be at E3.

Crush 3D - Crush was so criminally underrated it isn’t even funny. That game was a masterpiece of level engineering. I'm SO GLAD it's getting another shot!

Space Channel 5 Part 2
- DLC! Finally!

Shining title - It hasn't been announced yet so I can still live in false hope it could be a FORCE title... preferably built on the Canvas engine.

Creative Assembly Action game - Yes, I know we know nothing at all about it. But I'm excited, I enjoyed Viking for what it was, I've heard about the tech demo for their next action game being something special... I'm bloody excited.

-Monster World 6 (Wonderboy) is totally going to be announced for the West sometime soon for the first time ever! It's on the ESRB ratings boards. How's that for fan service?

There’s more...

-The Marvel Games license is coming to an end! Sega have said they won't be doing anymore! Hazzah!

-I really hope that Anarchy Reignes does a 'Binary Domain' on me, currently I'm not sure about the game.

-Rumours of Bayonetta 2... OMG YES.

So yeah... IMO this year wouldn't be out of place in the DC era... NOT AT ALL. A diverse list of games in different genres and I'm excited about many of them.

Right there with you sir.
It's shaping up to be a pretty fantastic year.
Here's hoping for some localization announcements at E3.

BAKA!

YOU SO STUPID SHARKY!

/sarcasm

I agree. I still think there is room for improvement and if they listen to 1% of what the fans are saying (level headed ones), then I can't wait for next year.

I feel a dejavu on this thread title...

Whatever, the Shining title will be a flop, since Sawada is running it without Camelot.

Be prepaired for more big boobs half beast females with tails and cat ears and homo-look main character.

I would sort of agree. It's a Big step forward . It's funny Ryan we joked as SEGA started to get Sonic right things would fall in the place. It's a nice bar SEGA Rally Online .

SEGA Rally needs a Arcade sequel developed by the Japanese Arm and then ported down to consoles, and SEGA should in fact be bring the Model 2 and Model 3 games to LIVE/PSN. I would really like to see more use of Canvas tech and the likes of Val being made for the PS3 and 360,the Yakuza team given a new tech , 3 years and a new City to model, Yu Suzuki allowed to make a new racer

But overall its the best SEGA line up since the launch of the Cube and X-Box.

SEGA really need some more 'ports' of their arcade games in general. House of the Dead 4 would make a great PSN/XBLA title.. its short, nice graphics....

Now with Move and Kinect out... could find a new demographic. People are latching onto that one horror game for Kinect because its M rated Kinect game.

You forgot Ghost Squad 2 YOU FOOL!

Hopefully we'll get a console port of that too, it's going to be fantastic, my body is ready.

Overall, I thought SEGA was excessively dry this year, but in this month there's been so many announcement that it's going to be a great few months coming up. Wonder what they have in store for E3 and Tokyo Game Show, hopefully some more arcade ports and in particular Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown!

it's fucking great year of course , but i wouldn't specified it as great as 2002 until i am fully satisfied

what i need to be fully satisfied (and i don't think i am asking for too much) :

- i want them to improve PSO2 technically (the game is looking outdated in my opinion) thankfully it's still in pre-alpha stage and Sakai said there is a lot of missing elements in the game ..... i would be really disappointed if this is what the final build will looks like.

- an RPG game (not SRPG) from Val-team for Consoles please.

- ARCADE PORTS SEGA! for the love of god! VF5:FS & Border Break has the priority, but THoTD 4 for XBLA/PSN supporting Move & Kinect would be cool too!

- revelation of PG & CA titles.

- revelation of the other sonic titles (so obvious)

- RGG:of the END & VCIII US release (very likely)

probably we will hear some cool announcements for Arcade industry like the recent announcement about Ghost Squad successor (hell i even think it's the time for their next-generation board with VF6 in it's line-up!) but i am talking here as consumer player.

?. I said 'since' Its nowhere near the 2001/2 when SEGA was showing off REZ, JSRF, SC 5 Pt 2, SEGA GT 2002, Monkeyball, HOTD III ECT,ECT.

But its's by far the best line up since then imo (not that's saying much)

Agreed but VF would just get killed in sales . The series needs a reboot for the Home or a sequel to Fighting Megamix for the home (not talking the Arcade side here) SEGA should also bring out Samba De Amgio for Natal too , as well as port of Race TV, HOTD IV , Too Spicy to PSN/XBL . Border Break should be a full retail price game , with a single player mode and improved multi player

i don't think VF5FS could cause such a big pain in losses. at least SEGA should do something for their VF fans after all these years of waiting.

regarding Border Break i kind of agree but i don't think the single player will be properly done, cause i don't think sega will give the developers the time they need , personally i think the game can stand on it's own without it.

SEGA's quality control for their downloadable releases is some of the worst around and they choose some of the worst titles to return (literally no one in the world wants to play Genesis Virtua Fighter 2 on the iPhone, but hundreds of thousands would love to see an arcade conversion or at least the PC port of the game on other platforms...) and they seemingly rush them out with little to no planning (Genesis Collection on the HD consoles has no online, horrifically bad achievements and more than half of the games are bad/stupid choices and are not emulated well at all) and are just downright lazy feeling.

Otherwise yeah, great stuff for sure. They are just really crushing me with how they treat their lineage.

SEGA West has only 6 people working for their online department. That pretty much explains it.

Still wondering where all those mobile phone game remakes that SEGA of Japan have done, I mean they could even do a remastered SEGA Mega Drive Collection with their Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Phantasy Star etc remakes. That is of course, if more than 6 people worked at there department for online goods.
