I saw the thread at the classic section of the forum, but I think we all know that this section gets the most attention from the readers. Besides that, this game is made from the ground up so you could say that it's sort of a new game :P. Seeing tails in action in sonic CD for the first time put a smile on my face.

And for those who missed it, check out this Sonic CD dev diary as well. Pretty interesting stuff.

Rumor goes that the game will be out tomorrow on 14th december for the price of 400ms, but still no confirmation from SEGA.

Anyway share your thoughts guys. What do you think of sonic CD and the way this port has been handled? If you look at the trailer you can see that the person who designed the game with his own engine(taxman from sonicretro), added animated spotlights in that stardust speedway level. Hope to see more upgrades like that

Edit: 14th december release date confirmed by SEGA

Wonder if it'll support first gen iPod Touch.

Thanks. I am editing my OP.

Taxman said the following about the pc version @ retro

Quote
PC version hasn't been cancelled don't worry. I don't know the launch details for that though. As you're all probably aware, launch dates on downloadable services can be difficult to peg exactly when they'll happen.

I've checked Gamersgate.com, it was that the game will be out on January.

Pretty much, the same release date as the Windows Phone 7 version.

Maybe if you have iOS 3.1..

But newer games all come in fancy iOS4

iOS4 being mandatory for a lot of games sucks, because I have a lot of apps that are way more advanced on iOS3 and lower than some apps that require 4.0. SASASR for example plays on my Touch 1st gen, but Brick People doesn't, which is like Chu Chu Rocket in terms of quality (and Chu Chu plays on iOS3). Just apple trying to force me to upgrade :P

So I got the game and am enjoying it alot.

The physics are really noticable, especially when you go back and play the original. The special stages are smoother than ever.

A lot of props to taxman imo. Making a game is hard, but making a carbon copy from the ground up (improved even) is I think even harder.

I downloaded this game early in the morning and started playing it at 9 pm.

My first reaction to this is: what the heck did I just play?

This is arguably the most bizarre Sonic game I've ever played... like ever.

The level design in Sonic CD is.......unique.

It's by no means bad, but it's confusing at first. You'll eventually get used to it Max.
First time I played Sonic CD I was playing it like the other 2D Sonics. But it's different, and enjoyable in it's way.

Btw, Barry was right: the digital pad on iOS is very good.

Yes, this is my first time playing Sonic CD...

I've only seen gameplay videos and I played a brief demo of the PC version.

I mean the early one from SEGA's first SEGA PC brand titles, which were mostly ports from early Saturn and Genesis titles.

Other than that, I've never actually played the entire game before.

The level layout is pretty bizarre. A stage might take you less than 50 seconds to complete or a almost 6 minutes depending on where you go.

But the last act of Metal Madness stage is driving me nuts and I haven't even gotten past the first checkpoint.

Though I gotta say, the one really, really good thing the game has is it's soundtrack. Definately something way beyond the classic 16-bit tunes.

Very nice and hands down still the best 2D SONIC game every made . Nice to see some proper sprite scaling on the bonus stages which for the life of me couldn't understand why it wasn't used in the original
Panzer Dragoon Zwei is
One of the best 3D shooting games available
Presented for your pleasure

I torn that game up, achievements and all. Taxman has done a excellent up. I hope they plan to work on Knuckles' Chaotix next with the use of the Retro Engine.

Co-op in that game with online is going to be funny and annoying.
