I remember a while ago from a old mike hayes interview, he was only talking about two types of Sonic.  The retro plus plus Sonic for hardcore gamers, and the younger oriented mainstream Sonic.  Looks like he broke down those categories even further.

Well this was a lie. They have no intent to do this.

he says it again right in this interview

Why make it episodic rather than a standalone New Super Mario Bros-style release?
Kind of a mixture of reasons. A lot of it is the whole digital entertainment part. We like everybody else are trying to learn how best to deliver entertainment in the future to consumers. This was a relatively low cost part of Sonic. We wanted to see how it was received via that delivery.

For something like Sonic 4, the consumer will often be quite core. They play a lot of multiplayer, a lot of downloads off XBLA and PSN. We're feeling our way if we're perfectly honest, but it seems to make sense.

So Sega is allowed to do games for genres which they have done in the past, but are not allowed to make games for genres that they have yet to venture into?
Yosh!

By that logic, hasn't Outtrigger already opened the door for AvP and Aliens: Colonial Marines to exist?
Never heard of Outtrigger, and there is probably a good reason for that.

Alpha Protocol is considered RPG and it isn't even a fps. It's third-person in the same vein as Headhunter. Also, Alpha Protocol does something very "Sega-ish" and puts a spin on a tired genre. An espionage RPG with third-person shooter elements.
Mass Effect already did this twice, how is that a "spin on a tired genre" ?

Plus I said it has the same boring atmosphere as games similar to it. It does not excite me or even look like a SEGA game. If it had the EA stamp of approval, I am sure the game would not be changed at all.

*Sigh*

Looks like I need to explain everything then...

Quote
An outrigger canoe is a traditional Hawaiian canoe, measuring 13.8 metres in length, with a smaller ‘outrigger’ (ama) for stability.  The canoe accommodates 6 paddlers, each of which paddle with a single-bladed paddle, with control of the canoe being left to the paddler in the 6th seat (steerer) who uses their blade in a similar fashion to a rudder to control direction of the canoe.  A six-person canoe is referred to as an OC6.

Outrigger canoes also come in one-person (OC1) and two-person (OC2) styles.

....

Also, this:
[youtube:3dhyb14k]2bYZCrkqOUw[/youtube:3dhyb14k]

It had a third-person mode too (1m 16s in the vid)

I'm pretty sure Barry was talking about the Canoes though.

Come to think of it, why is Outtrigger not on XBLA and PSN yet?

No clue. That, Alien Front Online and Chu Chu Rocket would be money in the bank. Call it the Dreamcast Online Pioneers Collection.

Shocked that Sharky has not come in here and talk about how Outrigger sucks. I remember we had a big debate about the game around the time The Club came out.

Outtrigger is average at best. Not sure why people would add it to the same list as ChuChu Rocket. It is clearly not going to contend well when you compare it to other games in the genre, it looks worse even when it is the only release within the genre that huge fans can name from the company.

I mean, piloting a rocket is way better than doing shit in the water.

Besides, if there is one Dreamcast game that needs to be on the Xbox Live Arcade, it is obviously Crazy Taxi.
