Red Dead Thread
« on: May 26, 2010, 08:15:18 am »
Since quite a few here own the game and it's the latest "it" game, I thought I'd make a thread for Red Dead Redemption. Any tips, hints, gloating or posse planning could happen here.... pardner.

I'll admit, I don't own it yet but I plan to get it this Saturday. Conveniently, there will be a RDR short film airing on FOX this Saturday at midnight: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/05/red-de ... m-for-fox/

So, how y'all enjoying the game?

Play through the campaign before touching the multi because it's better to get to the new areas naturally.

When aiming get used to twitching the right analogue up a bit to get easy head shots each time.

Listen to the game soundtrack rather than custom playlists because it really makes the atmosphere.

MP in GTA4 was killed due to auto aim. Why have this again?

The auto aim isnt' too bad in MP, it's different to the single player game. Either way you can choose to play in matches with Casual, Normal or Expert targetting in MP.

MP Deathmatches etc in these games isn't that fun anyway IMO, I don't think the engine/controls are suited that kinda thing, but the Co-op in the free roam is great fun. The other day I set up a posse of 8 and ran around the map taking on gang hideouts. Lots of fun.

I play a bit of FFA and Team matches, but it's clear I'm going to need to boost the 3/4 wins in a row achievements to get 1000. Apart from that though, I think I got all the others legit.

So I've been playing the game much more, about 3 hours so far. I've only played multiplayer once, and was very confused by the whole process. Despite being dropped into a game, I was miles from any of the players and it took forever for me to find them. Then, once I found them I shot the first guy I spotted in the head and the player started cussing me out over his mic. lol

I'll probably play multiplayer again once one of you want to give it a go, I'd probably get a handle on it if I play with people I know.

Oh, and the Red Dead special is on FOX tonight! I'll probably be home in time to catch it.

Yeah, it's best to play with a friend, yu can warp straight to them then.

I tried out a team deathmatch and found it very enjoyable, I'm not level 12 but hardly have anythng unlocked.

I caught the last 20 minutes of the FOX special last night, pretty cool stuff! The short was basically like watching a long cutscene, but it did a great job highlighting the game's graphics and voice acting. At times I forgot I was watching FOX and thought I was playing the game, as a few times it felt like they were going to give control to the player. lol

So yeah, it was basically an extended commercial, but it was entertaining. The last time I saw a video game do something like this was Shenmue the Movie.

A funny thing happened: During the intro bit with Bonnie, I guess I left her farm prematurely and went to Armadillo and carried on with the story (I got to the section in which you rescue the medicine man). After that, I returned to Bonnie and found that she had a request for me to escort her to Armadillo which was supposed to be my introduction to the town, but I had already been completing Armadillo missions well before that. However, completing the driving Bonnie to Armadillo mission unlocked the ability to buy a room at the saloon and finally got me my medicine for my wound, which would mean I played a good portion of the game with a gun shot wound.

But yes, West Dickens is awesome.

Well, with George on the 360, we'd have a good half posse on our hands! Four more and we could be called "the 8-bit boys"

Btw, played a bit of multi yesterday and leveled up quickly thanks to joining posses moments before they completed a mission. I did zero work yet got XP for their efforts. HA!

You missed out on the fun of killin' outlaws though!

But yeah teaming up to take on hideouts is really fun in Free Roam.

I finished the game the other day, trying to go for 100% completion, I'm up to 92% so far!
