Wow. I was definitely not expecting Aliens v Predator to sell anywhere near that well. Maybe about half that. I was personally expecting a debut closer to about 95,000 on the X360 and about 65,000 on the PS3. So, kudos to Sega.

Bayonetta, on the other hand, is doing remarkably poorly. What the hell happened here?

Well its seems that the deal with Platinum is turning sour. Two titles have failed to grab the american dollar in significant numbers while their japanese sales have been much better. Oddly since the point was to get massive western attention and only part of that has succeeded. The important part seems to be eluding them. Only Madworld seems to have flopped worldwide. Once Infinite Space and Vanquish is released in the west we can see if this pattern continues. Terrible to see the game that has surpassed GOW's gameplay has been beaten by the likes of Dante's Inferno. I wonder if the negative reports of the PS3 version had any impact on sales?

As for AVP that's double good news for Rebellion since they are in bad shape as a company. Wonder if these negotiations with them is really about Sega buying them out as i find it strange that they need to negotiate about DLC content and a sequel when all that would have been decided during development.

Buying them out would probably be a waste of money. Have they even made a solid game since the Jaguar days? And they don't, to my knowledge, even own any significant IPs. They don't own AvP do they?

As for the Platinum games sales figures, at least they're doing better than they were with Capcom.

They happen to own 2000 AD comic including Judge Dredd.

I would certainly hope Sega wouldn't dish out eight figures for the rights to Judge Dredd.

Why not? Rebellion is a compotent studio, sega needs more IP and more shooters as well. It'll be perfect for them.

It just wouldn't be worth it. That's a company they should just remain friends with and support, without actually getting their hands too deep in the pie. There are more competent studios out there. Gearbox or Headstrong would be a better purchase, at least in my opinion.

Rebellion is not a worthy studio to buy . not at all .

it will be huge waste of money for such a poor studio , i would rather that they keep the good relation with them in case if they want to milk more money with AVP2 .

Yes but at the end of the day its what Hayes think that's important and he's British. A studio that happens to have a good rep and own one of the beloved british comics and its characters in britain's history,which some of its characters optioned for a movie? If Rebellion wants to remain independant good for them but considering their recent troubles they may find it too tempting not to resist if Sega had put a bid in. Remember Sega west is still looking for more studios and Hayes mentioned years ago that Sega is severly lacking in the FPS department. If the british economy goes into a double dip recession wise they may have to look at the long term to ensure company survival.

Oh no lie it would be good for Rebellion. My point is there are much better studios with better track records (Such as Gearbox).

I loved to see SEGA buy Gearbox, but the trouble with them is thier Games are always late and way , way over Budget , and they cost a hell of lot of Money to buy out  , which SEGA don't really have.
Rebellion to their credit , did a pretty decent job with the Budget and time they had, unlike with Alien Marines that's gone through like 3 SOA Producers and a ton on money , and countless disagreements on the project  

To be honest though SEGA really missed the boat with not getting Monolith

Well, I think Rebellion need to prove themselves again... I'm still not sold they are a worthy buy after AvP. A good game but it wasnt amazing in any resepct and it did feel a bit dated.

But if they really do own Judge Dredd and 2000 AD thats a slightly better insentive.

But surely there are better developers in Europe then Rebellion, CA and SI were such good buys on SoEs behalf... Rebellion is not of the same calibur at all.

Is there any specific reason people are debating if SEGA should purchase a horrible FPS developer? I do not care how good their 'games' sell, they are terrible crap that any good SEGA fan has zero interest in.

They should focus on developers that have a more varied history than just one or two genres. I think FPS' are on their way out and games that are more like Uncharted will be the next norm, so I hope SEGA does not bother picking up any studios like Rebellion. Gearbox would be nice, but I hear they have poor relations with SEGA now, shame.

Well, the bad news is that AvP is no longer number one in the UK charts.
But nevertheless, it secured a strong second place in it's second week rolling.

Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing debuted at number 8 and Napoleon: Total War kinda failed to impress(the previous title was nº1 in it's first week), but still secured a respectable 12th spot.

The remaining titles, Mario & Sonic still hanging in there at nº11.

Vancouver 2010 only dipped 4 spots from 11th to 15th.

FM 2010 got bumped up from 25th to 21st.

Bayonetta sadly, had the biggest drop of all of the major Sega titles falling from 16th to 34th.

Still doing better then it's competition, be it Dante's Inferno or Darksiders.

The debut for SASASR doesn't look too good considering it's on 4 different systems.
