Don't know if it's true or not, but it's something to think about.

If true, it would make sense, as Part 2 never appeared on the US Dreamcast and was relegated to the PS2 as a second disc. Also, Michael Jackson = $$$ for SEGA.

Would make more sence to use both parts surely.

I'm worried MJ won't be in it. Sega doesn't hold rights to his image and that's something taken very seriously these days.

Also look at how Crazy Taxi is (different music, no store names)

But he is in that little flyer they are claiming is from XBLA... So either they are talking out of their arse... (Most likely, sonic fans after all.) Or he IS in it.

If SEGA has the rights to use Michael Jackson's face and name I would expect them to release both Space Channel 5 games and every version of Moonwalker that exists all over the place. It would only make sense to do so.

Maybe they can leave his likeliness there, and not state SPACE MICHAEL in the screen.

Still, Plants vs Zombies had a problem with this.

That was different. That was just a parody where the zombie was only hinted to be MJ. Popcap did not want to get in trouble once his estate contacted them, so they just made a quick fix on it.

I think MJ's work in this game is no different from the work of a programmer or an artist. He worked on the game, got paid for it and Sega holds the rights to that work. He was never actually known as "Michael Jackson" in the game, right? I don't see the prase "Space Michael" as a potential lawsuit. The face...maybe. I'm no lawyer.

So?

Jackson was in Men in Black 2, but it's still re-released and shown on TV without editing his scene out, so I don't see the difference.

I'm sure MJ signed some sort of legal form that allows SEGA to redistribute the game in whichever way they wish without having to pay him millions.

It's probably the same legal mumbo-jumbo that allows tv shows like The Simpsons to sell episodes on iTunes without paying royalties to their hundreds of guest stars. He was probably paid a one off fee for his performance (assuming he did it for money) and from then on out all the materials were property of SEGA.

Moonwalker, on the other hand, is probably a bit tricky as SEGA developed the game but it includes a number of MJ trademarks including music and characters.

You watched Men in Black 2 more than once?

Even being the same game, a release on a new platform is considered as a whole new game. This doesn't happen with movies.

This is the idea I get from what I read online.. Anyone can confirm/deny this?

I wouldn't imagine Michale Jackson being in the game causing much trouble.
It's not like all the other ports held up due to licensing issues.  It wasn't a "Michale Jackson" game, or a "Duck Tales" game, or a some other brand.  It's a SEGA franchise with Michal Jackson appearing in a guest role, that he requested to be in.

I really hope this does get ported to XBLA/PSN.
It's hands down one of, if not my favourite SEGA game of all time.  The best example of a sequel outdoing it's original in absolutely every way.  If more people get the chance to play SC5: Part 2, or the original, then I'll be one happy guy.
