I said the game has lovely colors, not that it is double rainbow all the way. Colors can be anything from grays and browns to purple and burgundy, dark, light, whatever. Anyway, to be more specific, I like the stark white and gray with the touches of blue, red and orange explosions. Also, Sam's suit has some cool touches, like the little greens and blues. See? Colors. Check the training session to see what I mean, it's all stark and white but once the sparks start flying and you go into bullet time mode it gets very pretty.

It's finally out. I don't like it. My worst fears are confirmed, it's Gears of War on drugs. That being said, it carries with it the biggest issue I have with these "cover" games: hide behind your indestructible wall, wait for the enemy to stop firing, fire back, rinse, repeat, kill, win. I don't see any fun in this.

It took me a few attempts to kill the boss however. I had some trouble getting along with the controls, I'd rather have cover mapped to A instead of X. It feels more intuitive. Nice and cheap one hit kill by the way.

Artistically it's as bland as P.N.03 ever was. At least the enemies are coloured differently from the level. Graphically I didn't find it impressive at all. From what I've seen I don't think the demo does the final game justice in this department. It was nice to see the inclusion of a SD screen mode. Developers not ignoring people without HD screens for once is nice for a change.

Despite my negative feelings towards the demo, I really hope this game outperforms that Tecmo Gears of War with tits game. It was sad to see Bayonetta beaten by Darkstalkers and Dante's Inferno.

Don't get me wrong, it's the occasional super attack. I say "occasional" but I don't know how often it's fired since I died to it every single one of the three times while in my little struggle with the evade/cover controls.

Maybe it's just not your kind of game, or did you enjoy gears?

Yeah, it's definitely not my thing. I was hoping Vanquish would be different enough to change my mind about this sort of game. I didn't like Gears of War as well but this is a thousand times better. At least you can see the enemies and the cover doesn't feel like glue. The shooting looks really good too.

Are you sure you are playing it with the right mind set... I watched a friend play it and he played it like a gears of war game hiding all the time doing nothing special, then i showed him 'how to play it' as I would say... Zipping around, slow mo-ing ever coupld of seconds, melee combat and stuff and suddenly it clicked with him on his next play though.

Also, people that DO like this game... Don't forget to give the demo a good rating on the XBL marketplace... better rating = more exposed.

I liked how he can throw a grenade to a group of robots, turn into slow-mo mode, fly past them and then aim at the grenade and watch it explode right in their faces.

played the tutorial and going to finish the demo right now, at the start i was like "OMG too many buttons to remember!" but after a few minutes it comes quite natural, i'm happy and even more excited about the game now! Just what i like, quick shooting a lot of enemies and electronic music lol :D Also, i like how Platinum Games likes to use the "slow motion" as super move in games, it works more or less like in Bayonetta

EDIT: i forgot to say that watching the trailers before the main character didn't impress me at all but playing it Sam is quite cool

While the actual landscape is not very colourful, the game makes up for it VERY well with all of the explosions being blue or red or yellow and the enemies all being very colourful.

I think the colour is actually handled very well and I'm happy with it. Lack of Colour was a big concern of mine... Screenshots don't do it justice.

I found your problem, the game wasn't designed to be played that way, infact you get penalized for the time you spend behind cover.

People should play it more like this:

If the game is not mean't to be played behind a wall 24/7, they should have made the destructible.

I'm pretty sure there are attacks that hits you even behind cover, the big elite robot (Romanov) that appears after the gate opens can hit you even with you being behind cover.  Not to mention regular enemies flank you or just jump above the cover.

And yeah, some covers are destructable too: (0:50)
