Lazy shit.
A port of the PC version of Virtua Fighter II to mobile phones has already happened in Japan...   years ago...

Why do they keep porting this stupid game, holy shit Sega what is wrong with you?

I swear the guy in charge of Sega's digital/retro division is doing this just to laugh at the reactions on forums.

I used to report on these on my blog, but I've stopped since they come so frequently and are so half-assed. The one game I am interested in seeing on the iOS is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, mainly because Sonic 1,2 and 4 are already out. Gotta fill that hole, SEGA!

Crap like this only hurts the reputation of the franchise, the Genesis console, SEGA and to a lesser extent the iOS platform all together. This REALLY pisses me off when there are dozens of platforms out now that would be able to run the fantastic arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2 perfectly fine and it has never been ported ever before.

Enjoy your fucking two dollars for each rare purchase, SEGA.

I've never played the 2D Virtua fighter.  I take it it's not good.

It is really not that bad, it is just annoying that they have brought literally the worst version of one of my personal favorite games ever to every platform possible now (it is even on SEGA.com for free too), and it entirely gives people the wrong idea entirely. Plus the sound and graphics are kind of shit, so that does not help either.

I played it when it came out, and it really was bad.

The worst thing about the game is not that it's 2D, but that the game is lazy and missing a ton of shit that there is no reason behind -
Shun and Lion are missing, the only stages in the game are Kage's, Akira's, Jeffrey's, Sarah's and Dural's.  The only music in the game is the music from those respective stages.   The stages are recycled between characters with pallet swapping to make them look a little different.

The game itself is playable, but it's so obviously a cheap cash-in when it's missing so much - there's no technical reason you couldn't include all of the fighters and stages (for example check Super Street Fighter II on MegaDrive where every character and stage from the arcade version is in the game).

SEGA of America still has a loooooong way before they can trump SEGA of Japan's digital content (Effectively mobile phone games over there)

Why SEGA of America have not brought over the Streets of Rage or Shinobi remakes (And some SRPG styled Shining Force) SEGA of Japan made is beyond me, would think they could charge more than $2 and make an able profit.

Not all of the blame should go to SEGA of America for this, SEGA of Japan released this exact same version on mobile devices and download platforms just this week.

I am not sure what is wrong with SEGA sometimes.

I'll bet an iPad and the most recent iPhone and iPod Touch could easily run Virtua Fighter 1. Maybe even 2, no problem. That, or put a little money into a mobile Virtua Fighter. Capcom's fighting efforts on the iOS have been fantastic.

SEGA really needs to learn how to milk their fighting game franchises. I know Capcom fans complain about how often Street Fighter games are rererereleased, but at least they get 'em. SEGA sits atop a mountain of great games and very rarely gives them a rerelease. When they do, it's usually a cheap port.

My dream rereleases would be Virtua Fighter Trilogy for the iOS, NiGHTS into Dreams on PSN/XBLA and some of those really rare Dreamcast games for XBLA/PSN as well. Like Cosmic Smash and Propeller Arena. Fighting Vipers 1&2, VF Kids and Megamix would also be great. Maybe an AM2 fighting compilation disc.
