PSP2: The topic of whining and hating
« on: January 24, 2011, 03:51:22 pm »
The PSP is suppose to be shown on Friday. Here is a 'leaked' image that is going around Japan.

According to Japanese paper Nikkei, the PSP2 will use 3G. This obviously means you will have to pay monthly for this extra feature.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I would say the PSP has become my favorite handheld gaming system, so I'm eager to see what this upgrade will bring to the table.

My biggest gripe with the PSP'S SO FAR has been that it needs 2 analog sticks.  Looks like they fixed that.

If the mock up is real, yea. A 'touch screen' would also help when its closed. You know, to flip through songs and other 'apps' like skype and web browsing.

I forgot to add, also the rumor says it will have a OLED screen. I guess they are really nice screens.

My other gripe is that they don't have the same trophy system across both platforms.  It seems like a missed opportunity.

That's great if people need all that stuff.  I use iPods, iPhone, iPad for music, internet, etc.  I think the PSP's advantage is a back catalog of old, classic console games, and some new ones that are good too.

There are some fun games on Apple stuff, but I don't think of the iPod Touch or iPHone as gaming machines.  Maybe some people don't have other devices for those things, though and it's great for them, but for me I just need it to play games over internet.

I probably won't use it for music, but having touch screen for for browsing 'store', reading comics, and the other things like this would not hurt it. Its not like when PSP launched, touch screens are uber cheap now.

Think the reason that trophies didn't make it to PSP games was because it was not possible updating them in or something. I guess PSP2 has no excuses.

I like that they're keeping the slider design from the PSPgo.

Looks good to me :).

Between this and the 3DS, I'm leaning towards the 3DS. It's a lot more different from an iPod Touch, which I already own, so at least I'd have two current portable devices that are very different from one another. I can't imagine carrying around a PSP2 and an iPod Touch, they both do so much of the same stuff.

Even so, probably won't dive into the new handhelds until late 2011/early 2012.

It's all about the games for me. I'll pick up either one/both whenever there are enough good games to warrant a purchase.

I thought that even after all of these years, the PlayStation Portable's lineup is still pretty laughable. Game Gear only had like four years on it and I still think about at least one of it's games every month.

I have had so many issues with everything I have ever owned by Sony breaking constantly, if my PlayStation 3 breaks within a year I am completely boycotting the company for like ten years. Seriously.

I enjoyed more PSP games in 2010 than DS. Even though Dragon Quest 9 came out.... PSP2 and VC2 are probably the best portable games this generation. Seriously. PSP2>PSZero.

Also God of War: Ghost of Sparta got a ton of awards for best handheld game.

Nagoshi said he has something important to do today. If its another Yakuza PSP game, PSP2 is already better than 3DS...

OHSHI-
PSP2 confirmed Android Operating system, 3G and OLED screen:

I only got a PSP about a year and a half ago. There's not a huge flood of games or anything, but there are enough AAA titles (Valkyria 2, MGS: Peace Walker, etc), and quirky games you don't see anywhere else (Half-Minute Hero, Patchwork Heroes, Patapon, etc..) that it's enough to warrant a purchase.

Plus there are new entries to the Yakuza and Valkyria Chronicles series coming to it :D.
