I really enjoyed the first two games in the series but didn't really get into 3 or 4. I might give this one a shot though.

3 and 4 sucked. No thanks.

Namco is not that great of a publisher. Looks like they hired the writers from Sonic Team's Sonic 06 for the story. Good to see they have jobs ;3

Actually, the third and fourth installment are my favorites in the series. I like how they are trying to have a more expansive single-player modes and I really like the Soul Gauge system in Soul Calibur IV. That way if someone blocks way too much you can punish them with a Critical Finish.

I love how they included the line from Siegfried's ending in Soul Calibur IV. I'm curious to see what the next chapter in the tales of souls and swords will contain. =)

III and IV are some of the worst balanced fighting games I ever played. To add insult to injury they are still running on the same gameplay engine that was made in the 90s and reuse so many animations that were made over 10 years ago... So damn lazy. Classic Namco, I guess!

That said, I always enjoyed the single player stuff in these games and I think with that regard they are actually getting better. Some of the characters are getting ridiculous design-wise, but man they are hot. I usually am against exploiting females in games like this, especially when it Soul Edge and Soul Calibur 1 had believable outfits, weapons and settings, but HOLY SHIT ARE THEY HOT.

I do not like how V is set 17 years in the future though. It seems like it will have too many new characters and the characters that are fairly goofy based on their age group will look/seem extremely stupid if they are doing the same kind of attacks and stuff at a much older age.

Will wait for this one to go down majorly in price, like I did with IV.

I only truly enjoyed the 1st one on DC, it was the first game I ever purchased (original game).

I got Soul Calibur 2 for Gamecube but it sucked eggs, I have the PS2 version which was remarkably better, but I've not played all that much.

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast is, in my opinion, the best port of a fighting game ever made. In terms of competitive value, it's not the best, but in terms of content and sheer quality of everything else, it's just phenomenal and has never been topped.
The Quest mode alone is just so huge and well put together it leaves everything else in the dust.

I also liked part 2 (fuck you all, Spawn was a cool character), but I felt it didn't live up to the first, and I never even played the others.

I love the first, like the second, but after that the only things they made bigger and "better" were the boob sizes.

I feel that the first was the best, don't know why tbh. I did enjoy the second too but the 3d and fourth felt a bit.. off.

A tales of sword and legends eternally RESOLD would be a fitting description.

Brilliant!

Namco is clueless as to what to do with the industry nowadays. Within the past 5 months they have had around ten major releases... All were extreme big budget failures and can be bought for under 10 USD now. It would be funny if it were not so sad. Even when SEGA was at their worst financially they never were THAT bad.

Heh, well I guess I'm the only person here who really enjoys this series. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this game and I can't wait to see what Namco brings in this next installment.

Huh? I said in this topic that I am actually a pretty big fan and plan on getting it... Eventually. I am just not expecting an extremely good game, just a casually fun one.
