I feel like Miku is a character that you have to be a gamer/jpop/anime fan to know about, whereas Sonic is universally known as Sega's Mascot. I know plenty of people who don't know who the fuck Miku is, yet they'll be quick to point out Sonic in any given circumstance.
I agree, I as well know people that have no idea who Miku is but they all know Sonic is a Sega character.

But i said in the first post of this thread...as is the NAME of the topic..that this concerns Japan..not anywhere else. Miku is more popular in japan than Sonic is...and since Sega has been involved making the character more popular  and mainstream in Japan they have posistioned her in that role. Miku is only now breaking into the west..so its hardly a good comparison. But in Japan as to where i stated all along about where Miku and Sonic dynamic lies...it appears that she is or becoming the character that SOJ wants to sell the brand Sega to consumers.

But as far as america is concerned...from what was posted in this thread..the association with Miku and Sega has already started or been ingrained in western fans of the character. Sega hasn't done such a mainstream push for anything outside ALIENS..and not..even Sonic..(nintendo was the ones pushing the Mario vs Sonic Olympic games) and they definatly haven't made a mainstream network push on any of their characters or games since the DC launch on MTV. So its obvious that Miku is demed by Sega Japan to be more of an asset to push in the west than Sonic is...

I think they are promoting the characters differently. Miku can really only be promoted by events such as David Letterman. Not only do they not have full control of what can be done with the character she really doesn't make it easy to promote in different ways.

Sega has (what they consider) big plans for Sonic in the upcoming time frame. They have new games releasing, a new series, an upcoming movie. I realize that all of these things are being handled effectively outside of Sega's grasp, but they for some reason have a thought that this is what is best.

Sega has definitely gone more the role of a publisher and IP library than creator in the past years. With the days of mobile gaming about to eclipse retail (if this hasn't already happened in some sectors) I can't really argue they are making bad choices.

All the same it saddens me that Sonic and other Sega characters are being left high and dry. I fear that we may never see the passion and creativity that Sega last displayed in the Dreamcast era.

SEGA japan doesn't seem to take much care when releasing Sonic Boom media.

lol

I doubt Sonic Boom is getting any pushing from the mothership (SEGA Japan). it seems to be a 100% SEGA America thing. Judging by how the cartoon won't even be out in the UK until late 2015. I imagine the only reason its being released in Japan is a contract obligation to fill with Nintendo

Why does SEGA America always make the worst decisions possible in regards to finding developers to make their games? Secret Level, Gearbox, Bioware, Big Red Button...

Creative Assembly should be given a chance to make a Sonic game, but it will never happen now that BRB has proven westerners to be incompetent in the eyes of SEGA Japan. I expect to see a lot of interviews where iizuka is talking about how he saved Sonic.

The interesting thing is that people from Sega originally had said Sonic Boom would not show up in Japan. There was an interview with Iizuka where he said there were no plans to bring the game or show to Japan and that Sonic Team would continue making their own games even if Sonic Boom is popular and does well in the west.

Sounds like you might be right about some sort of obligation because even the producer for all Sonic titles was under the impression that this new take on Sonic would never come to Japan.
