I guess hard luck for Sega, Square is more involved third-party franchise in Smash Bros than the other third-party fighters.
Well, they gave Switch their Kingdom Hearts games, not a bad deal for Nintendo. Cloud gaming version but still.
Now SquareEnix could be proud of themself since they have most characters representation.
SEGA : Sonic, Bayonetta, Joker --> 3
Capcom : Megaman, Ryu, Ken --> 3
BandaiNamco : Pac-Man, Kazuya --> 2
Konami : Snake --> 1
SquareEnix : Cloud, Sephiroth, DQ Hero, Sora --> 4
Also, when Sakura said it was he was the last character, did he truely mean it? I mean, will there be no more updates or new characters or DLCs to SSBU? (Other than maintenance I guess.)
Yes, he meant it.
Back then in Smash for Wii U/3DS too, when he said this is the end, then it's really the end.
Adding new character was fun, but to make it balance & compatible with other 80+ characters was tiring for him.
Quoting him again, "games are just more fun to play than to make."
That's the difference with mobile games I guess, who's constantly adding new characters until the game's not selling well anymore.
When the console game developer said they wanted to wrap it up, then that's the end.
