Well, if this game gets the same success like Hortensia Saga and Monster Gear, Sega will get the money and hopefully we will see more things funded besides mobile games. That's my guess btw ;)

After a bit of digging it seems this game will also have an accompanying anime and 'storytelling boardgame'

Sad that this cross platform advertising is all aimed at Japanese audiences. Would be nice for SEGA to try and squeeze their anime on Cartoon Network and advertise events weekly as it airs. Even get a board game out by a board game company, I know board games are all the rage in Germany.

Fun Fact: this franchise was originated first as a table top board game maded by some  of well know light novels/manganime creators like Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magika,Fate/Zero) and Ryogoh Narita (Baccano!, Durarara!).

It got some attention in Japan and eventually companies got together to make it as a multimedia franchise. Here entered Sega in the deal.

The new board game that they are going to made is based in the Universe of the Anime/App game.

The board game tie in is surprising. I didn't think they were very big in Japan, but that's pretty cool.

Wouldn't mobile game success just breed more mobile games? I mean, they are focusing on them for a reason right? A spin off to retail would be cool, but I wouldn't expect it.

I just noticed but why does the anime and video game have completely different cast of characters?

That's pretty silly.

Not necessarily, over saturation of the market is something I think SEGA is aware of which is why they've gone down from 100 mobile titles to 40 or so.

But it would probably mean more investment poured into the mobile division but I'd imagine it'd result in more expensive to develop mobile games. I do doubt they'd use the money to invest in console development but you never know, retail versions of mobile games might become a thing.

The music at the very ending of the trailer for the game really reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles. I'm not sure if it just sounds similar or if it was taken directly from VC. The similarities aren't surprising seeing how the soundtrack for both games was done by Hitoshi Sakimoto. He's also the composer for The World End Eclipse.
