Okay that was really hilarious. I havent watched more than 3 episodes but i think sorta get it now. Makes the blow much softer with the boom aesthetics in the next 3ds game :)

The quality and incresing popularity of the Boom series makes me sad the game bombed that hard.

Hope the 3DS games make up for it. Sonic deserves it

I've watched a few with my Niece; some episodes are better than others but generally the writing is snappy and good, I laugh more times per episode than I do per season of How I Met your Mother, or The Big Bang Theory.

But I will say this... Knuckles' dumb guy jokes can be a bit too much... And Sticks is a one dimensional conspiracy nut gag and is the worst character.

The writing is good but the animation and graphics are sometimes very cheap... but otherwise quite good. It varies between episodes. I can see why it is popular though and I can see it being popular with parents too.

[Accurate Representation of Hell]\

haha, thanks for sharing that one!

I actually watched the first episode a while back and thought it was quite well done actually. I like the gags and the characters, seems like something I would have really enjoyed in my younger days with a few jokes that the 'grown ups' will enjoy too.

It was a shame the games were handled poorly, as I really think Sonic Boom was quite a good TV series spin-off.

The comics were (well, "are", since they still have 3 issues to go) enjoyable. They felt like a throwback to the old Archie Sonic comics before they became much more serious in the late 90s and early 00s - Archie Sonic has since leveled out to a nice balance of humor and drama. The Boom comics break the fourth wall quite a bit, and there is one reference Cubot makes a funny reference to the many henchman duos throughout the years of the franchise - Scratch & Grounder (AoStH), Sleet & Dingo (Underground), Bocoe & Decoe (X). The first four issues only include the core cast, likely because the comics team didn't have the show to work off of and only were given the characters. But issues 5-7 & 11 feature the expanded cast from the TV series. Issues 8-10 are a part of the Sonic/Mega Man crossover so really don't count aside from the occasional appearances of Sticks, Comedy Chimp, and Fastidious Beaver.

One thing I will add is that the comedy route is right for Sonic, especially the sometimes self aware, grown up humour and parodies. I feel like that is the direction Sonic was originally going with the whole Death Egg, Starwars thing and so on and then it lost its way in the early 00's. When it strays into that super serious Sonic 06 style stuff is where it goes really wrong.

Since the shift (back?) to comedy Dr.Robotnik has been one of the best characters. He reminds me of Ice King from Adventure Time.

I agree, even the old Sonic Comics were great for that. I hated it when they took on a darker tone. I didn't mind them going 'serious' every now and then, as it added some weight to certain moments, but when it became furry drama I dropped the series (even though I was only 9 or whatever).

I loved the older stuff, mainly before issue 50, where it was full of action and jokes and self contained stories. Even introducing a bunch of weird 'Serious' monster villains turned me off.

Hahaha, that was actually really funny.

I haven't played Sonic Boom, Lost World, or Colors, but does anybody know if the writing in those games is as funny as the show?

Best thing going for Sonic Boom Wii U are the cutscenes (watch them on YouTube), Lost World has some funny writing but the story itself is so paper thin and a lot doesn't make sense or goes unexplained. Archie actually did a prequel comic that gives the plot a bit more sense. Colors writing is great.

Compared to Boom the show, I'm not sure how I'd compare it to those games. Even Boom the game feels different from Boom the show.
