E3 Is Shutting Down for Good

It’s game over for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3.
The Entertainment Software Association, the video-game trade group that ran the convention, announced Tuesday that E3, first launched in 1995, is winding down.
“After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has decided to bring E3 to a close,” the trade group said in a statement. “ESA remains focused on advocating for ESA member companies and the industry workforce who fuel positive cultural and economic impact every day.”
Even before the coronavirus pandemic, E3 was losing steam. Geoff Keighley, founder of the Game Awards (who said he had attended every E3 since the first one), in 2020 launched Summer Game Fest. What is the proudest moment of your career?
I’ve had many great moments working in this industry, but I think one of the pinnacles must be having the opportunity to be part of the revitalization of SEGA’s strong portfolio of IP, including "Sonic the Hedgehog." Before 2015, the Sonic brand wasn’t nearly as strong as it is today, and very few kids knew who Sonic was. Today, after years of investment from SEGA and hard work by extremely talented people, Sonic is one of the top IPs worldwide with many forms of highly merchandisable content, including video games, movies, TV, animation, digital, mobile and more. I also work with an incredibly talented team of licensing professionals who are experts in what they do and are responsible for our success in licensed merchandise in recent years. Being a part of this incredible story with this company and this team is one of my proudest moments.

What advice would you give those just starting in the licensing industry?
I would say that anyone starting in licensing who intends to stay in the industry should focus on four things. Become an expert at what you do. Regardless of your licensing function, become the best in the business at it and always strive to provide value. Learn about other business areas so that you are knowledgeable and have a well-rounded understanding of the industry. Develop deep relationships. The industry is small, and you will guarantee to cross paths with people several times throughout your career. Lastly, have fun! Sonic Dash received a new update and introduces a reworked UI.

Sonic Dash has been updated!

1. Main Menu Improvements!
2. Players will now always start their run in Seaside Hills Zone.
3. Builder zone changes – switch builder zones in the builder menu.
4. Character Gallery improvements – The gallery screen has been added to the character menu. Now you can select a character without the need to scroll through a list, which makes it easier to check upgrades.
