Are Sega of Japan titles really 'low quality'? I thought they were just very light release schedules and just being ultra niche/weeaboo (see Miku and Dengeki). Yakuza seems to be the most likely to have mass appeal, and I'm still kind of boggled as to why it can't ever catch on.
I feel like the issue is just releasing more games that people might want to play rather than 'quality' concerns.
On the topic of Sega's games on other consoles, I feel that was a real mess. I remember at the time the thought of having more than one console was absurd to me. I went with the Xbox because of JSRF & Sega GT bundled with it, as well as the prospect that the Shenmue series would be going there. I missed out on all the Gamecube and PS2 releases (including VF4, which I still regret), and not being a big Panzer Dragoon fan, I never got Orta.
It's really quite weird how my buying habits changed when I didn't have a Sega console.
I didn't even know what Otogi was. That's a game I probably would have enjoyed, but a poor demo and no coverage (no Sega magazines anymore) meant I missed most of Xbox's Sega exclusives. I didn't even get OutRun2 until it was in the bargain bin because I felt I wasn't into racing games or arcade racers for some reason (although playing it much more recently it's phenomenal).
I do think it was just a case of having too many games spread out seemingly randomly on different consoles, and without news and reviews showcasing them (like I would have had for Saturn/Dreamcast magazines), I only read about Halo and Splinter Cell (both excellent games, but still).
I'm rambling, I have no idea what I'm talking about and I need my meds.
